Odisea will premiere the award-winning documentary 'Lucy's Journey' directed by Galician Ruth Chao

The documentary Lucy's Journey, produced with the participation of Odyssey and directed by Ruth Chao, discovers the first mission of the American space agency that will travel to the Jupiter Trojans.

Led by Cathy Olkin and Hal Levison, The mission is the first that will travel to the Jupiter Trojans, which constitute the vestiges of the origin of the Solar System. The documentary accesses the group of 'Lucy' scientists and shows, from the inside, how a space exploration mission develops over the years, from the beginning to the launch.

The Lucy probe will fly by six asteroids in the coming years and, from Earth, very little is known about them because they cannot be observed well. However, it is very important for the mission to obtain all possible information beforehand and that is where the Spaniards Javier Licandro and Javier de Cos come into play.

Javier Licandro, research coordinator of the IAC (Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics), who has dedicated his entire life to observing, studying and analyzing the Jupiter Trojan asteroids from the largest telescope in the world, in La Palma, now collaborates with NASA's Lucy mission, providing information so that they can plan the mission well.

While Licandro makes the observations from the powerful telescopes of the Canary Islands, the scientist Javier de Cos, director of the ICTEA (Institute of Space Sciences and Technologies of Asturias), does so from Asturias with an indirect observation, through a curious technique they call “occultation”. With this, she gathers essential information about Polymele, one of the asteroids that Lucy will visit. This observation was considered one of the 12 milestones of Spanish science in 2021.

The production has been awarded the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers Award, the Best Scientific Documentary Pitch award at the Sunny Side 2021 and the Best Pitch award at the MIPDOC 2020.
