RTVE is dedicated to this event through TVE, official television, RNE and RTVE.es. La 1 will broadcast nearly 50 hours live in which viewers will vibrate with an intense edition that will feature, for the 15th consecutive year, the narration and comments of Carlos de Andrés and former cyclist Pedro Delgado.
This Thursday, the city of Jerez de la Frontera hosted the presentation of the coverage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España 2014. An event attended by the director of TVE, José Ramón Díez; the director of Sports of TVE, Yolanda García Cuevas; the Vuelta commentators, Carlos de Andrés and Pedro Delgado; Daniel Ampuero, from RNE; Agustín Alonso, head of social networks at RTVE.es; and the cyclists Alberto Contador, Alejandro Valverde and 'Purito' Rodríguez. The event was also attended by the general director of Unipublic, Javier Guillén; the mayor of Jerez, Mª José García-Pelayo; and the president of the Provincial Council of Cádiz, José Loaiza.
The director of TVE, José Ramón Díez, has assured that "you all know TVE's tradition with sport and with the Vuelta, and for me it is a pride that one of my first acts as director is at the Vuelta and thanking the different groups that participate: the athletes, the TVE professionals... Every year we try to make it better. Not only in terms of coverage, but in terms of dissemination. And thanks also to Unipublic, for making things so easy. This year, in addition, the Vuelta will be broadcast every day on La 1, with a top-level team that guarantees absolute coverage from all levels. But it is not only TVE, it is also RNE and RTVE.es.”
TVE's Sports Director, Yolanda García, has explained the technical deployment with 7 cameras, 2 helicopters, 3 motorcycles, 1 plane and a high-definition mobile unit, which will allow TVE's professionals to "give their all so that this event receives the coverage that TVE requires and deserves. We will produce the international signal in high definition, which is distributed to 190 countries, which is very important. And for Spain we do special coverage, with Carlos de Andrés and Pedro Delgado.
The 69th edition will travel 3,239 kilometers during 21 stages, from Saturday, August 23 to Sunday, September 14, between the city of Cadiz and Santiago de Compostela, which will host the final finish line for the first time. Five flat stages, 13 medium and high mountain stages, 1 team time trial and 2 individual time trials form the layout of a race in which names such as Chris Froome, Alberto Contador, 'Purito' Rodríguez, Nairo Quintana, Samuel Sánchez or Chris Horner and Alejandro Valverde, winner and third in 2013, respectively, participate.
For the first time in the history of a cycling round, one of the stages will start from a boat. It will be the third, with an original beginning from the deck of the aircraft carrier Juan Carlos I in Cádiz. In addition, 40 mountain passes make this event very attractive for climbers, especially in stages such as Lakes Covadonga or Ancares. The Borja time trial will also be one of the key days for the peloton.
