Hidenobu Miyazaki, 4K Summit

Hidenobu Miyazaki 4K SummitThe producer of the Global Content Development Division of the NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), Hidenobu Miyazaki, surprised all the participants in the 4K Summit with some demonstrations of the latest productions that the Japanese broadcaster is making in 4K and 8K. It is noteworthy that it is the first time that NHK participates in this global summit on UHD organized by Medina Media with Panorama Audiovisual as main media partner.

Miyazaki revealed that NHK will broadcast eighteen hours in 4K and twelve in 8K daily at the end of 2018. To achieve this objective, it has launched an ambitious production plan since last year.

Just a few weeks ago, a series of documentaries with impressive images of animals in the wild and numerous aerial shots was filmed in 8K in Yellowstone Park in the United States.

For 8K production, the Japanese broadcaster is using RED Digital Cinema cameras.

Miyazaki highlighted, on the other hand, the hyperrealistic results that can be obtained when recording art in 8K. Along these lines, last summer they produced a documentary about Katsushika Hokusai recorded in collaboration with the British Museum and the Louvre in Paris.

Finally, Miyazaki announced that next year NHK will have an 8K mobile unit that will tour Europe to record content in several countries. NHK's intention is to create a global network of production companies that jointly explore the potential of 8K, which is why they are open to receiving proposals for co-productions.
