Akamai will define its next generation CDN concept at IBC

A series of technology demonstrations will highlight innovations in 4K online video delivery, multi-format workflows with MPEG-DASH support, and network efficiency at Akamai's Amsterdam booth.

An IBC 2014, Akamai Technologies will show how its Media Delivery and Network Operator solutions and services are defining what the next generation of content delivery networks (CDN) have to offer to meet the growth, scale and economic demands of the industry.

Akamai's demonstrations at its booth 6.A15 will focus on how video quality and service scalability, cloud-based workflow simplification and new technological innovations can help media companies overcome the challenges of connecting the highest quality content possible with online audiences around the world.

Los formatos soportados son Apple HLS, Adobe HDS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, y ahora MPEG-DASH, que satisface los requisitos de HbbTV para la televisión interactiva en Europa.

La tecnología de Akamai permite la ingesta nativa y streaming en directo de vídeo formateado con MPEG-DASH mediante un codificador de Elemental Technologies, demostrando una mayor flexibilidad y facilidad para alcanzar una gama más amplia de dispositivos conectados.

It will also be possible to upload content at high speed to Akamai NetStorage using Aspera Upload Acceleration, offering efficient and fast transfer of larger files with better quality content to the cloud to boost preparation and delivery.

Additionally, it will now be possible to stream 4K video from localized caching servers on Akamai's Aura licensed content delivery network (LCDN), creating a virtual ISP within the Akamai booth at IBC, while taking advantage of content generation and preparation services through the Akamai Intelligent Platform.

Innovation

Akamai Media Clients extend the reach of the Akamai Intelligent Platform into homes and connected devices to deliver greater reach for larger audiences. This is intended to meet growing consumer demand for more, higher quality video, including 4K, which presents new challenges with larger file sizes and higher bandwidth requirements.

Asimismo, mediante una alianza con Vubiquity, una solución de contenido como servicio que combina librerías de contenido licenciadas con flujos de trabajo, almacenamiento y entrega basados en la nube a escala global, los proveedores de servicios y propietarios de contenido podrán lanzar de forma rápida y económica servicios de vídeo.

Asimismo, los ejecutivos de Akamai darán conferencias en dos sesiones de paneles separadas en IBC. El viernes, 12 de septiembre, de 11.30 a 13.30, Tom Leighton, CEO de Akamai, participará en el panel, The Cloud and Broadcast TV: How the industry is adapting to today’s consumer with content production, distribution and user engagement (Broadcast TV and cloud TV: How the sector is adapting to today's consumer with content production and distribution and user interaction). On Saturday the 13th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Will Law, chief architect of Akamai's Media Division, will participate in the panel, Broadcast Meets Broadband.
