Solaria, Christie's next generation of digital cinema solutions, debuts during ShowEast in Orlando with the launch of the Christie CP2220 digital cinema projector.

Christie SolariaUntil the 29th, Christie's next generation of digital cinema solutions can be seen at one of the largest international events dedicated to the film industry, ShowEast'09 (Orlando, Florida). Named Solaria, this new generation begins with the launch of the Christie CP2220 digital cinema projector. This projector features next-generation DLP Cinema technology from Texas Instruments and an optional integrated 2K/4K media block. Christie's next-generation 4K digital cinema projectors will offer a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels. While maintaining support for external 2K servers, these new models allow exhibitors to easily project 2K and 4K content, giving them the widest range of digital cinema options. The Christie CP2220 is shown at the Christie booth at ShowEast running with an integrated media block from Doremi.

The Christie CP2220 is the first in the new series of digital cinema projectors that also includes the Christie CP2210 and Christie CP2230. The Christie CP4220 and Christie CP4230, also announced in June, are the company's premium 4K projectors and are among the brightest in the world (like the 2230, the 4230 is capable of outputting more than 30,000 lumens on the largest screens and delivering stunning 3D images). All next-generation Christie digital cinema projectors continue to use Christie Brilliant3D technology that provides the ultimate 3D experience at the lowest operating cost.

Craig Sholder, vice president of Christie Entertainment Solutions, said: "Christie is committed to supporting its customers today and in the future. That's the driving force behind our 2K and 4K Ready solutions. We've expanded our industry-preferred line of digital cinema solutions to provide the greatest flexibility to exhibitors, giving them maximum freedom to choose from the widest range of 2K and 4K resolution projectors, as well as Offer them the option to choose between an external media block or an integrated one. Unlike other proprietary solutions, Christie's technology is designed to work with all external cinema servers, while it will continue to work with companies that offer integrated media blocks. We recognize how important it is for exhibitors to safeguard their long-term technology investments.

Brian Claypool, senior product manager for Christie's Entertainment Solutions division, added that “Christie's experience with the 1.2” DLP Cinema chip in our current mid- and high-power products has given us an advantage over the competition in developing next-generation 2K and 4K technology. In fact, the 4K DLP Cinema chip is very similar to current 1.2” products and is not available in the smaller chip format used by other manufacturers in their mid-power projectors.”

All Christie Solaria series projectors are designed to meet Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) specifications. They feature a new modular architecture for improved operability and ease of maintenance, with an operating cost up to 25% lower than competing technologies. Recognized for their high light output capabilities, Christie's digital cinema projectors have once again been selected to screen all major studio releases at AMC Theaters during ShowEast. Also at ShowEast, Christie is introducing the latest version of ChristieACT, designed to provide true integration into cinema operations, ChristieACT offers pre-programmable sequencing, built-in library devices and web-based integration. With ChristieACT, exhibitors can now control all booth operations from the palm of their hand.
