This practical, high-value solution will benefit emerging markets and public movie theaters with an all-in-one design, great ease of use and the brightest projection in its class. This is the first solution based on the S2K DLP Cinema chipset developed by Texas Instruments to be widely distributed.

Christie today officially launched its flagship digital cinema product, Solaria One, targeting emerging markets and public movie theaters with screens less than 10.6 meters (35 feet) wide. Aegisolve recently certified the solution as fully compatible with Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI).

This is the first solution based on the S2K DLP Cinema chipset developed by Texas Instruments to be widely distributed.

The Solaria One will deliver images fully compliant with DCI standards at 8,000 lumens, within the DCI color space and, like Christie Solaria One+, at 10,000 lumens when presenting alternative content.

Don Shaw, senior director of product management at Christie Entertainment Solution, highlighted that “in successive product demonstrations, the DCI-compatible Solaria One projector has already earned the approval of customers around the world, and has done so thanks to its “all-in-one” design, including a zoom lens, a high-performance xenon lamp, an IMB (Integrated Media Block) for projecting high frame rate movies and an SMS (Screen Management System) to control the system.”

"But exhibitors will also appreciate that the Christie Solaria One has built-in dual DVI input (HDMI) and network ports, allowing it to display virtually any type of alternative content, and will appreciate not being limited by a proprietary projector-based storage system. We strongly believe that hard drive platters should not coexist within the projector chassis, and that those systems, present in our competitors' solutions, eventually fail. Christie sales representatives offer robust, external storage systems DCI-compatible for use with Solaria One, added Shaw.

Ster-Kinekor Theatres, South Africa's largest cinema exhibitor, will be the first recipient of the solution, with an order for 198 projectors from Christie's new line. The chain exemplifies the expanding market for which the Solaria One solution has been developed and, as stated by Fiaz Mahomed, President of Ster-Kinekor Theatres, "Christie Solaria One projectors offer cinema lovers extraordinary quality within a reinforced visual experience. They are ideal projectors for small screens and highly cost-effective. Ster-Kinekor is proud to be the first chain in the world to launch this product and we believe that this new link meets a real need for our audiences to access the best cinematographic content with the highest quality.”

"The DCI Digital Cinema System Specification helps ensure uniformity of excellence among products for the world's leading cinemas and promotes the deployment of high-quality digital cinema equipment. Christie Solaria One has clearly met the applicable criteria for interoperability and rigorous content security as specified in the DCI Compliance Test Plan," said Travis Spann, president and laboratory director of Aegisolve.

Digital democratization

"The announcement of the high-end Christie Solaria One projector is evidence of Christie's continued leadership in digital cinema technology, as the company furthers the 'democratization of digital' trend that will culminate in all audiences on the planet having access to the best digital cinema and alternative content. Thanks to Christie, everyone can join the digital cinema revolution and the announcement reflects what global exhibitors expect from the world leader in sales of DCI-compatible digital cinema projectors, which has distributed and installed more to date of 36,000 projectors,” commented Kathryn Cress, vice president of Global and Corporate Marketing at Christie.

Note that, as with all Christie projection systems, a dedicated and exclusive technical team supports the Solaria One and Solaria One+.

Commitment to HFR technology

Helping the industry develop the best HFR content and offering the best HFR content distribution systems are the two main objectives on which Christie is focusing its activity in relation to this technology. The first objective involves helping the most innovative film directors and post-production companies to perfect the creation of HFR films to increase the attractiveness of the entertainment content offered by the industry.

The second objective is to support exhibitors to project these 3D HFR films in all their splendor. To this end, Christie is collaborating in the creation of standards for HFR 3D films by forging alliances for the development of formal and informal technologies with major producers and directors, post-production companies, studios and technological partners. In terms of its relationship with exhibitors, Christie has a "one-stop shop" for the acquisition of hardware, software and for
