The Board of Directors of UTECA has unanimously agreed to the appointment of Luis Enríquez Nistal as the new president of the institution, a position that until now was shared by José Manuel Lara and Alejandro Echevarría.

Enríquez enters the position with 20 years of experience in the media industry. CEO of Vocento since July 2011, in 2000 he joined Unidad Editorial where he became General Director and had previously worked at the film production and distribution company Aurum. Since January 2013 he held the position of president of the Association of Spanish Newspaper Editors (AEDE).

The new president of UTECA takes office at a time of special importance for the audiovisual sector. The Digital Dividend process that should be completed on December 31, the PP's non-legal Proposal in order to modify the financing system of TVE and the possibility of closing 8 channels that is in the hands of the Supreme Court at the moment, are the main challenges facing the newly appointed president of the institution.

Enríquez wanted to highlight that he comes to the presidency with “the intention and energy necessary to face the great challenges that the audiovisual sector is currently facing.” “We are at a crucial moment for the world of television and the decisions made in the coming months will decisively condition the development of the sector in our country,” he added.

The Spanish audiovisual sector is the driving force of 1% of the Spanish GDP, it directly generates a business of 5.5 billion euros and is a source of direct and indirect employment for some 77,000 people. Private television stations have become, “25 years after their birth, one of the economic and technological axes of our country,” declared Enríquez, who took advantage of his appointment to remember that “free-to-air television continues to be the preferred entertainment option for Spaniards and it is everyone's job to work to ensure that it continues to be a benchmark of quality and good management.”
