China Telecom and Huawei launch a commercial 4K service

Huawei and China Telecom Sichuan develop an intelligent platform for the encoding and distribution of Ultra High Definition content.

China Telecom Sichuan in collaboration with Huawei has launched the first commercial service in Ultra High Definition 4K.

Both companies began their collaboration three years ago within the framework of the development of IP video services. Now thanks to the adoption of fiber broadband, China Telecom Sichuan will offer Ultra High Definition video services.

Its approach is to offer a complete and integrated end-to-end user experience from encoding, CDN, network and 4K STB.

Huawei technology will allow the quality of the 4K signal to be monitored at all times from the headend to the user's STB, alerting in case of failure.

To offer this service, Huawei and China Telecom Sichuan have opted for the H.265 video standard as well as a series of technologies aimed at optimizing the flow in coding, quality, delay, and complexity in the coding algorithm.

It is noteworthy, on the other hand, that this project has been focused on a more intelligent treatment than traditional service platforms, integrating Internet Protocol TV and CDN platforms, thus achieving intelligent 4K encoding, distribution and programming.
In addition, the acceleration of the speed of metropolitan and backbone networks has allowed the entire network to transmit services over fiber optics at 100G and 400G based on Internet protocol.
