Over the next decade, 1,800 new satellites will enter orbit

The consulting firm Northern Sky Research (NSR) estimates that a total of 1,800 new satellites will be launched into space over the next ten years. The business volume of this satellite fleet could exceed 30 billion dollars annually worldwide.

In this forecast, NSR has included both minisatellites of less than 50 kilos and large devices of up to 6 tons. Throughout 2014, 116 satellites were launched into space, with 149 beginning construction. According to NSR, cost reduction, greater flexibility, greater transmission power and a longer useful life will be some of the factors that will accelerate the launch of new satellites into orbit.
