Hispamar presents its three new satellites and its portfolio of audiovisual services at SET Expo 2018
The new satellites are ideal for video and DTH transmissions, especially Amazonas 5, which is in a very favorable orbital position and has Ku band BSS capacity, a frequency optimized for the provision of television services, much less susceptible to interference.
Until August 30, Hispamar, Brazilian subsidiary of the Spanish satellite operator Hispasat, participates in SET Expo 2018. Organized by the Brazilian Society of Television Engineering, this is the largest event on content and technology for media in Latin America and brings together more than 15,000 attendees from different countries in São Paulo to debate and present technological innovations, regulations and new audiovisual products.
At the operator's stand (118), attendees will be able to consult its portfolio of audiovisual services, which includes innovative offers, and the powerful coverage over the American continent in the C, Ku and Ka bands of its three latest satellites: the Amazonas 5 (61º West), the Hispasat 36W-1 (36º West) and the Hispasat 30W-6 (30º West).
These satellites are ideal for satellite services. contribution and distribution of video, DTH (Direct to Home) and 4K TV; In particular, the Amazonas 5, which in addition to being located in a favorable orbital position for the Latin American region, has BSS (Broadcasting Satellite Service) Ku band capacity, a frequency optimized for the provision of video services, much less susceptible to interference.
The offer of except Ku y except Ka on Amazonas 5 adds value to the services provided, as it enables the provision of triple play services through the same orbital position, consolidating 61° West as a leading position for high-capacity video transmission and broadband services.
Innovative audiovisual solutions
In addition to investing in new satellites, the company has entered into several alliances with technology companies to promote innovation and expand its audiovisual portfolio.
Together with the company Global Skyware, a global provider of satellite communication equipment, the operator will be able to offer triple play satellite services through modern Ku/Ka hybrid terminals that enable optimized solutions for this type of service.
This system allows the integration of television and data services in different frequency bands and offers the advantage of using a single terminal and a single antenna both to receive both audiovisual content in Ku band and data services in Ka band.
An agreement has also been reached with the company hiSky, with which it is developing modern, small portable communication terminals, through which instant messaging, voice and data services oriented to IoT (Internet of Things) can be offered in Latin America. This new technology, called “phase-array”, considerably reduces the size of the antenna and allows electronic beam pointing, thus facilitating the installation and configuration of the terminal for people without specific technical knowledge.
Extended C Band
With the aim of promoting the use of the extended C band, in 2017 Hispamar launched a promotion program that facilitated the main pay TV operators in Brazil with the free installation of antennas and equipment that allow receiving content through both standard C-band and extended C-band, a frequency less vulnerable to interference.
Until that moment, the use of this frequency range, which is part of ITU appendix 30B, was something unprecedented for satellite operators in Brazil. This project enabled Hispamar to reach a new agreement with Woohoo, a major Brazilian subscription TV channel with a focus on sports, culture and youth.
Sergio Chaves, Business Director of Hispamar for South America, highlights that “through Hispamar and the excellent relationship that has existed for years with its commercial team, it has been possible to realize the dream of distributing the Woohoo channel signal in HD,” said Ricardo Bocão, founding partner of Woohoo. "Hispamar has invested a lot, deploying reception antennas in the main headers of Brazil, which has given us confidence to choose the Amazonas 2 satellite for the distribution of our HD content, a very important step in the channel's 12-year history."
"Woohoo is the first channel whose content we distribute through the extended C band, which makes Hispamar the first satellite operator to provide a video distribution service on this frequency in Brazil. Thanks to our commitment, today this sector has at its disposal a new type of frequency to transmit its high-quality content throughout the country," he adds.
