Clovis Jose Baptista Neto assumes the presidency of Hispamar Satélites
The Brazilian satellite operator, a subsidiary of Hispasat, intends with this appointment to strengthen its management structure at a key moment before the launch of the new Amazonas 5.
Hispamar Satélites, the joint venture integrated by Hispasat and Oi, has appointed Clovis Jose Baptista Neto as the new president of its Board of Directors. International telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICT) consultant, Baptista Neto was elected at the company's Shareholders' Meeting held in April, and this Wednesday he chaired the Board of Directors meeting for the first time.
Graduated in Telecommunications Engineering, Baptista Neto began his career in 1973 at Furnas Centrais Elétricas, where he specialized in the area of microwave radiocommunication systems for electrical energy companies. Between 2000 and 2015 he held the position of executive secretary of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States (OAS), based in Washington DC. In the period from 2008 to 2010, he also assumed the direction of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation of the OAS by appointment of the Secretary General of said organization.
Previously, he was special advisor to the Minister of Communications and Head of the International Advisory Department of ANATEL in Brasilia. From 1995 to 1998 he held the Presidency of the Board of Directors of TELEPISA. From then until 1999, he also represented Brazil in the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and in the negotiations on telecommunications services of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which led to the adoption of the IV Protocol of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) in 1997. In addition, between 1974 and 1995 he held prominent technical and management functions at Embratel.
The appointment of Clovis Jose Baptista Neto has been a strategic decision that will strengthen the position of Hispamar Satélites, since it places a president with extensive international experience at the head of its Board of Directors. The new president assumes the commitment to strengthen and build new institutional relationships and lead the company towards achieving its objectives, guaranteeing its growth and the creation of value for shareholders and all its stakeholders.
Next year, Baptista Neto will face a very important moment for the company: the launch of the new Amazonas 5 satellite, which will be located in the 61º West orbital position and will offer Ka-band capacity to provide new broadband services in Brazil and the rest of Latin America. Amazonas 5 will also have Ku band capacity to provide audiovisual services, corporate networks and other telecommunications solutions.
