Hispasat increases its shareholding in Hispamar Satélites to 100%
After the acquisition to Telemar 19.04% of the shares of its Brazilian subsidiary, Hispamar Satellites, Hispasat will be the owner of 100% of the company's share capital.
The closing of this operation, the most important at a strategic level since the constitution of Hispamar 20 years ago, reinforces the commitment that Hispasat made to the brazilian market of telecommunications with the acquisition in 2001 of the orbital rights in 61º West, of Brazilian sovereignty, and the constitution of this subsidiary, with which operates and markets the Amazonas fleet.
Currently, the Hispamar fleet has satellites Amazon 2, 3 and 5, which offer capacity throughout the Brazilian territory and the rest of the American continent. High-performance and cost-efficient services are operated on this fleet of satellites for the distribution of audiovisual content in C band or for Ku-band direct-to-home (DTH) TV solutions. In addition, it has band capacity Ka to offer satellite connectivity solutions and reduce the digital divide in rural environments. This fleet will be joined at the end of 2022 by Amazon Nexus, a satellite that will provide great flexibility to offer rural broadband connectivity services and in land, air and maritime mobility environments throughout the American continent, the northern and southern corridors of the Atlantic and Greenland.
Clovis José Baptista Neto, president of Hispamar, values the movement: "This operation is of great importance to reinforce the role of Hispasat in Brazil. This country has enormous potential for the development of satellite communications solutions and we are willing to collaborate with the country's public and private sectors in projects that provide the greatest value to its society."
On the other hand, Rodrigo Abreu, president of Oi, states that the agreement represents one more step in the company's strategic plan: “It is an asset that was expected to be sold in the modification of the Judicial Reorganization Plan approved in 2020. It is another step that we take in the process of improvement and transformation of the company.”
