The Silent Menace (Story)

A History team finalizes the recordings of The silent threat, his new and ambitious series of his own production, which will premiere exclusively on the Spanish channel in the coming months, and which will show, from a historical perspective, the incidence and potential dangers that the expansion of tropical diseases and their lack of control may pose for society in the coming years.

The 6-chapter documentary series is directed and presented by Dr. Pilar Mateo, one of the world's leading experts in the study and fight against the transmission of endemic diseases. This Valencian chemist and researcher has been a finalist for the Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation and is the author of, among other advances, 'the paint that saves lives', an insecticidal paint that has proven to be very effective in the prevention and fight against parasitic diseases such as Chagas disease, Dengue and Malaria.

History follows Pilar Mateo on her trips to each of the affected areas and gathers information from the different institutions that work on the matter as well as from specialized scientists, volunteers who fight against these diseases in remote towns, and affected patients.

Immersed in the middle of recording, the History team is currently in Liberia, the direct focus of Ebola. In fact, it has managed to enter places that no other media had accessed until now and where the fear of becoming infected makes everyone avoid physical contact and each person who has a fever over 38º is immediately isolated.

The silent threat will reveal that distances are no longer an obstacle to the spread of these epidemics, which throughout history have been generated in the poorest places on the planet and are currently expanding to the most developed countries.

Shot in high definition, The silent threat It will have the most modern and advanced visual resources such as 3D animation, microcameras or drones, with the aim of explaining, in an effective and visually attractive way, the human and scientific reality that surrounds these threats.

Carolina Godayol, general director of The History Channel Iberia, highlighted that "Pilar Mateo and her team are doing a magnificent job focusing on one of the great problems that humanity has and that affects millions of people. At History we believe that Pilar's experience, knowledge and talent can help us better understand how to face this threat and know the risk to which we are exposed if appropriate measures are not taken. In addition, this series will serve to publicize the valuable work of these professionals."
