With the new 512GB SanDisk card, the operator can enjoy just over 7 hours of continuous recording in 4K resolution at 150 Mbps with JVC 4K cameras.

SanDisk Extreme Pro

JVCKenwood has put the new cards to the test SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I in your 4K cameras. The capacity of SD memory cards is continually increasing, SDXC cards have a theoretical ceiling of 2TB and currently, thanks to SanDisk, 512GB cards are already available. Its use as a recording medium in professional content production has been consolidated thanks to its universality, ease of acquisition, improved reliability and low cost, compared to other types of proprietary and exclusive support, which some brands in the sector continue to use.

On the other hand, and thanks to the double slot for SD memory cards that both the 4K cameras, GY-LS300 and GY-HM200, and the cameras with streaming generator GY-HM850, GY-HM890 and GY-HM650 have, in addition to the GY-HM600 camera, it is possible to record continuously on 2 hot-swappable SD cards, or use one of them as a backup recording, or as a copy for the client even in a resolution other than the original.

However, the capacity of the cards is not everything, since with ultra-high recording rates that 4K filming requires, for example, as well as their use in environments that require robustness and reliability such as a camera for news production, it is necessary to ensure their suitability for the use that is going to be given to them.

SanDisk Extreme Pro a camcorder JVCThis is the case of the 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I (U3) card, tested by JVCKenwood Ibérica and which has given positive results for use in 4KCAM and ProHD cameras. This card supports writing speeds of up to 90MB/s (or 720Mbps) and reading speeds of up to 95MB/s (or 760Mbps), according to the manufacturer's specifications, which allows it to work easily for 4K streams. This new family of 512GB, 256GB and 128GB cards are resistant to water, strong temperature changes, shocks and X-rays to withstand the most rigorous environments and, most surprisingly, SanDisk gives them a lifetime guarantee.

Using a single 512GB card like this, the operator can enjoy 7 hours and 28 minutes of continuous recording in 4K resolution (UHD 3840x2160 at 150Mbps), and if the double slot for continuous recording is used, up to 14 hours and 56 minutes of recording.

Recording in other resolutions the resulting recording times are: Full HD (at 50 Mbps), 1,320 min (22h.); Full HD (35 Mbps), 1,860 min (1 day and 7 hours); SD (at 8 Mb), 7,063 min (4 days and 21 hours); and in proxy, 17,800 min (12 days and 8 hours).

With these recording durations even the camera's own counter reaches its limit, since it only indicates the remaining time when it is less than 999 minutes, although the operator can access the Media (Playback) mode to see the real time remaining in the recording format that is being used.
