Josefina MolinaThe Menéndez Pelayo International University has awarded the VII UIMP Prize for Cinematography to the filmmaker Josefina Molina, who will receive the award from the rector of the UIMP, César Nombela, in a ceremony that will take place this Monday, August 24, at six in the afternoon in the Royal Hall of the Magdalena Palace.

The laudatio of the winner, who in 2011 obtained the Goya of Honor in recognition of her career, will be given by the philosopher Amelia Valcárcel.

The director and screenwriter Josefina Molina (Córdoba, 1936) took her first professional steps on stage when she founded the Teatro de Ensayo Medea company in her hometown. She soon decided to create her own universe through the lens of a camera and in 1969 she became the first woman to obtain the title of director of the Official Film School.

Television allowed him to film dramatic spaces for Estudio 1, and, later, make unforgettable series such as The path (1978), between orange trees (1998, based on the novel by Blasco Ibáñez) and, above all, Teresa of Jesus (1984), played by Concha Velasco.

After his first feature film (Vera, a cruel story, 1973), reached cinematic maturity in night function (1981), a film in which Lola Herrera and Daniel Dicenta played themselves. Then came the historical drama Esquilache (1989), based on the play by Buero Vallejo, A dreamer for a town, The most natural, with Miguel Bosé and Charo López (1990) and La Lola goes to the ports (1993) performed by Rocío Jurado.

In that fertile career he has never abandoned the theater, and has also directed productions backed by critical and public success, such as that of Delibes' text. Five hours with Mario, performed in different stages by Lola Herrera and Natalia Millán. He has also cultivated literature with novels a matter of chance, On the threshold of the bonfire y Bécquer's papers.

The UIMP Award for Cinematography has gone in previous editions to Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón (2014), José Luis Garci (2013), Alberto Iglesias (2012), Carlos Saura (2011), José Luis Borau (2010) and Marisa Paredes (2009).

In this 2015 edition, a piece by Sargadelos that reproduces a plate camera, in homage to the beginnings of cinema, will replace the clapperboard given to the winners on previous occasions.
