Chromecast 2: Google returns to the assault on the IPTV market
In order to overcome the commercial gap that the device overcomes, Google launches a new Chromecast with WiFi access and a new disk-shaped design.
2 years ago Google brought a most interesting invention to the market. It was called Chromecast and allowed you to view the contents of any smartphone, computer or tablet on television.
It cost 35 euros and they sold 20 million units. Its success led the main streaming providers to adapt their applications to Chromecast.
Now, trying to overcome the commercial bump that the device overcomes, Google launches a new Chromecast with WiFi access and a new disk-shaped design.
Available in striking colors (black, yellow and red) the new Chromecast will offer a 1080p signal and has HDMI and Micro USB connectors. Google's proposal can work under the operating systems Android 4.1 and higher, iOS 7.0 and higher, Mac OS X 10.7 and higher, Windows 7 and higher.
Like its predecessor, Chromecast 2 allows you to view photos or videos saved on your mobile on your TV or access streaming content from platforms such as YouTube.
The new Chromecast no longer looks like a pendrive like the previous one. It is now shaped like a disc at the end of a cable that allows the device to be “hidden” on the side of the television to prevent it from protruding. The device will connect only to the Wi-Fi network (it has 3 antennas and is compatible with Wi-Fi 802.11ac) and will synchronize any tablet or mobile phone.
Along with the Chromecast for TVs, Google has presented an audio version that allows music from any smartphone, tablet or computer to play through the speaker to which the Chromecast is connected via its 3.5 mm jack. (at the moment this option only works with the paid versions of Spotify and Google Play Music).
