Josep Paradells, new director of the i2CAT Foundation
Paradells has collaborated with companies in the sector since 1992, such as Alcatel, Telefónica, Orange, Vodafone, Seat or FECSA, among others, as well as in public financing projects related to telecommunications networks.
Josep Paradells will be the new director of the i2CAT Foundation, replacing Sebastià Sallent, professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in the field of Telematics Engineering and who held the position since the creation of the entity, in 2003.
A member of the i2CAT Foundation since its origins, Paradells is also a professor at the UPC in the same field of Telematics Engineering since 2003 and responsible for the field of electricity, electronics and communications in the UPC-Seat chair.
With a long history in research and development in the fields of wireless networks, Internet of Things, smart cities, connected vehicles and sensor networks, the new director of the entity has collaborated in private financing projects with companies in the sector continuously since 1992, such as Alcatel, Telefónica, Orange, Vodafone, Simon, Urbiotica, Alstom, Seat, FECSA, Doxa or SENER, as well as in numerous national and international public financing projects.
As the new director of the i2CAT Foundation, Josep Paradells's main objectives are to "continue generating knowledge and research in Internet technologies, but with a determined commitment to generating business and impact. By opening i2CAT's research and knowledge to the market and users, we will achieve that together we can transform them into innovative products and solutions that provide differential value and a clear competitive advantage, both locally and internationally. To achieve this challenge, it is key to consolidate and formalize new strategic alliances with companies and institutions, to co-create and co-develop technological solutions and define new business models.”
The i2CAT Foundation is a technology center that promotes R&D&I activities in Internet technologies within the ICT industry. The center has extensive experience in multiple R&D projects at a national and international level, leading the introduction and integration of ICT in the main economic sectors (health, education, audiovisual, industry, culture, telecommunications) as a means to improve the productivity and competitiveness of companies and the well-being of people.
