Iván Trujillo, director of the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico), has been recognized with the first Ibero-American award. More than 300 candidates will compete for the 30 GAVA awards, which are celebrating their second edition this year in Avilés.

Gava AwardsThe Asturian journalists Marta Reyero and José María García, and the recently deceased Langrean actor Carlos Álvarez Novoa have been awarded the Asturian Audiovisual Honor Awards in the categories of Television, Radio and Film, respectively. For its part, the Ibero-American Award has gone in its first edition to Iván Trujillo, Mexican filmmaker and currently director of the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico).

This year, Avilés will host the second edition of the GAVA Awards granted by the Audiovisual Cluster of Asturias within the framework of the Gijón International Film Festival (FICX) and the deadline for submitting candidatures has closed today.

More than 300 candidates will compete this year to win one of the 30 awards that recognize the best audiovisual works carried out in 2015. In this second edition, 10 percent more candidates have been submitted than in last year's edition.

The awards aim to recognize the work of professionals in the Asturian audiovisual sector who work, both in the Principality, in the rest of Spain and abroad. The awards are awarded to works carried out in film, television, video and technology applied to audiovisuals.

One of the main novelties of this year's edition is the inclusion of two specific awards for radio, which will be the guest medium: The best program and best host/presenter of the year will be recognized.

The names of the three finalists in each of the categories will be announced during the first week of November. The Jury's decision will be announced live at the Asturian Audiovisual Gala that will take place on November 27 starting at 9:30 p.m. at the Palacio Valdés Theater in Avilés. The event will be broadcast live on Television of the Principality of Asturias (TPA).

Gijón journalist Marta Reyero, who began her professional career in Asturias, has become in recent years one of the most recognizable faces in national news.

The radio operator José María García, a communicator specialized in sports, marked for decades a way of doing and understanding sports journalism with his program Supergarcía, leader of early morning radio for twenty years.

The actor, teacher, author and theater director Carlos Álvarez Novoa, born in La Felguera and who died this year in Seville, is already one of the main exponents of the national scene, both in cinema, theater and television.

The Mexican filmmaker Iván Trujillo, a biologist by vocation who ended up dedicating his life to cinema, has triumphed in his roles as director, university professor and director of the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico).
