The Bayerischer Rundfunk group (Bavarian Broadcasting – BR) operates eight radio stations (five free-to-air and three digital) and two television channels. It also contributes content to the national media of the ARD, a joint organization of public broadcasters in Germany.

The headquarters of this entity are located in Munich and it has three regional studios in Nuremberg, Regensburg and Würzburg, and twenty branches in different cities of the state. The BR control center, where its stations and signal distribution have been monitored for more than 60 years, is located about 1,800 meters above the Wendelstein in the Bavarian Alps, in an area of difficult access.

This center also controls the quality of image transmission and in order to optimize this process, this station has been equipped with a video wall made up of six high-definition LCD screens and a video control system. Eyevis.

At the bottom there are three 58-inch EYE-LCD-QHD Ultra-HD LCD screens that display the transmission images through external Eyevis processing units. The top row of this video wall configuration, where the actual television images are displayed, is made up of three more Full HD EYE-LCD-LE-700 screens, which have a diagonal of 55 inches and a brightness of 700 cd/m2.

In combination with the Eyecon Control Server, for multi-user operation, and the Eyecon V5 Basic video wall management software, the displays can be managed in multiview mode and therefore offer maximum flexibility. Thanks to its high resolution, the transmission signals, as well as the distribution channels displayed through the software, are very clear.

This is where Reinhard Bäz, who oversees the project on behalf of the Videocation, system supplier, sees the most important advantages of the new installation. “The graphical presentation of the entire network is displayed in a very readable environment, allowing individual configurations to be made within the video wall, according to the requirements of the different workplaces. And optimal evaluation of television programs is also possible thanks to these high-resolution screens.”

The choice to opt for Eyevis technology, according to Reinhard Bäz, was driven by this manufacturer's experience in displays and control software for control rooms and the broadcast environment.

The completion of the project was not only an initiative to face current challenges but its infrastructure is prepared for future changes.
