'The Embrace of the Serpent' sweeps the Platinum Awards
The film by Colombian Ciro Guerra managed to win seven of the eight categories for which it was nominated, including best film and best director, as well as most of the techniques.
Last night the third edition of the Platino Awards was held in Punta del Este (Uruguay), the great common project of the Ibero-American film industry organized by EGEDA and FIPCA with the participation of more than twenty countries and nearly 800 films.
The great winner of the big night of Ibero-American cinema was The embrace of the snake (2015), by Ciro Guerra, after winning in seven of the eight categories for which it was nominated, including best film and best direction.
The third film by the Colombian director, who was already nominated in the last edition of the Oscars for best foreign film, tells in black and white the story of an Amazonian shaman and the journey of two scientists in the search through the jungle for a rare specimen of a sacred plant. The story is set in the period between the two world wars.
In the interpretation section, the two great winners were the Argentine Guillermo Francella for The clan (best actor) and Dolores Fonzi for her role in Paulina (best actress).
Without a doubt, one of the great protagonists of the night was also the Argentine actor Ricardo Darín (The secret of their eyes, A Chinese tale…) who received the honorary distinction of the awards and who was also nominated for the best actor award for his role in the film Truman. Darín recalled the importance of the awards to consolidate the union of Ibero-American nations and took the opportunity to wish these awards longevity.
The award for best documentary went to The mother-of-pearl button, a film written and directed by veteran Patricio Guzmán, which tells the story of Chile during Pinochet's military dictatorship using the country's largest border as a metaphor: the sea.
The award for best animated film went to the Telecinco Cinema production, catch the flag, directed by Enrique Gato, and which has won numerous international awards, including the Panorama Award.
The Chilean film The club won the award for best script written by Pablo Larraín, Guillermo Calderón and Daniel Villalobos. This drama tells the story of four criminal monks who hide in a nun's house in a commune while establishing the routine of training a racing greyhound.
