A new firmware incorporates HDMI input, second 3G/HD-SDI connection and improved functions for high dynamic range production.

Sony BVM-X300 4K OLED

Sony has updated its BVM-X300 OLED reference monitor, providing users with more flexibility and more features for HDR and 4K production applications. Starting in October 2016, this new version of the BVM-X300 will feature updated version 2 firmware and will include EOTF HDR and additional feature support, new hardware with an HDMI input for easy connection to cameras or Blu-ray players, and a second 4K 3G/HD-SDI input for easy system integration.

The BVM-X300 firmware update to version 2 also offers new display functionality for HDR production, including EOTF Hybrid Log-Gamma HDR tuning, supporting the new ITU-R BT.2100 standard; the new EOTF called S-Log 3 (Live HDR) offers easier camera control for live production; new one-touch relative contrast modes (1/2, 1/3 and 1/4), allowing you to view HDR images with higher peak luminance; and faster access to the status menu page (color space, EOTF, user predefined functions and more)

Since the launch of the BVM-X300 in early 2015, many post-production companies have been adopting it for color grading and monitoring and quality control in television programs and films. Daniel Dubreuil, senior product marketing manager for professional monitors, says: "This monitor has become the de facto reference standard for 4K and HDR grading in post-production, and is also making its way onto sets and mobile production. These new updates make the BVM-X300 even more flexible as production requirements become more demanding."
