Sony to launch all-in-one mixer for small-scale multi-camera setups
This mixer, which has four channels, allows you to record live images (PGM) with AVCHD formats and without the need for an external recorder.
At the beginning of 2017 Sony will launch a new switcher aimed at small-scale multi-camera live productions. The MCX-500 includes a wide range of features along with an easy-to-use interface that offers operators the versatility to easily cover different types of productions.
Sony has designed this new solution with applications in mind where the system needs to be affordable and easy to use, but without sacrificing flexibility or quality.
The MCX-500 features 4 channels and gives users the option to choose from 9 inputs, including 4 x 3G-SDI, 2 x HDMI and 2 x CVBS. An additional RGB input is available for title overlays. A wide range of video cameras can be connected to the MCX-500, including professional XDCAM or NXCAM camcorders and consumer video cameras. Other features included include PinP and Keyer overlay functions, a variety of transition effects, 4-channel video and 5-channel audio inputs, including XLR, and integrated audio from SDI or HDMI, for maximum versatility. The MCX-500 also includes premium features inherited from Sony's iconic broadcast video switcher (the MVS series), such as professional-quality chroma key algorithm.
Mix, edit and distribute, instantly
Something very notable is that the MCX-500 has also been designed to adapt to multiple workflows. This all-in-one mixer allows you to record live video (PGM) with AVCHD formats without the need for an external recorder, allowing users to edit or distribute the video recording as soon as it is finished.
Additionally, integration with Ustream allows users to easily stream live event recordings over the Internet. There is also the option to use a remote control user interface from an external computer or tablet, which is ideal for live recording tasks with a small number of people.
The MCX-500 has been developed to make multi-camera operation as simple as possible, especially when connected to the Sony RM-30BP remote control and any of Sony's professional camcorders. This simple live solution allows you to synchronize recording control for multiple camcorders (such as the HXR-NX5R), making it easy to centrally manage independent recordings. Additionally, a PGM/PVW Tally signal can be sent from the MCX-500 to connected camcorders to notify operators of the image selected for live broadcast.
