Mocha Chai Laboratories chooses Christie Vive Audio for its next-generation sound room

The world's first sound room to achieve Dolby Atmos certification uses Christie's revolutionary cinematic sound solution.

Mocha Chai Laboratories (MCL), Singapore's first fully integrated digital cinema laboratory, has installed cinema sound system Christie Live Audio in its state-of-the-art sound room to offer the best cinematic sound features for post-production tasks.

The sound room, fully equipped with 4K color correction and audio post-production facilities, is fully compliant with the DCI standard. Additionally, the Vive Audio system that has been installed has been configured to meet the sound technology system requirements Dolby Atmos. This makes MCL the first post-production facility in the world to offer a Dolby Atmos-certified sound room. The room is equipped with Christie's revolutionary cinematic sound solution, which combines the superior performance of planar ribbon drivers with linear array speaker design, and coordinates them with powerful class D amplification.

40 Vive Audio speakers

The installation at MCL was carried out by Electro-Acoustics Systems, a Christie partner company in Singapore, and includes up to 40 Christie Vive Audio loudspeakers in different combinations. These include the LA1 screen channel speakers; LA3S linear array for wall, back and ceiling; the S115 and S218 subwoofers for the low-frequency effects channels; as well as CDA2, CDA3 and CDA5 class D amplifiers to deliver the highest efficiency and power output. The end result is truly immersive cinematic sound known for delivering exceptional performance and power.

Opening a sound room in Singapore is undoubtedly of great value, said Chai, noting that filmmakers in the region previously had to travel to Thailand and Hong Kong to mix sound and color correct the final film, as there were no such facilities in his country.

"They can now do final mixing, online editing and color correction in a single facility without having to travel abroad. We are really excited to be able to offer regional and local filmmakers an option to complete their films here with the best sound system and prepare them for cinema using a globally recognized standard. So far, many of the filmmakers who have used our sound room have been wowed by the quality and performance of the Vive Audio system we have installed, and we are totally convinced that we have made the right choice," he adds.
