'Essentials', Delfín d'Or in Cannes for its documentary about the architect Rafael Guastavino

The architect of New York, from the program Essentials de TVE, sobre la trayectoria del arquitecto valenciano Rafael Guastavino, ha recibido el Delfín de Oro en los Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, en la categoría de Historia y Civilización. El documental, una coproducción de RTVE y Endora Producciones dirigida por Eva Vizcarra, sigue el rastro de Guastavino y sus construcciones más célebres, como la Grand Central Station y el puente de Queensborough, en Nueva York, o la Boston Public Library. Ana Peláez y Eva Vizcarra, directoras de Essentials and the documentary respectively, collected the award this Thursday in Cannes.

The architect of New York He travels from Valencia, Rafael Guastavino's hometown, to the Barcelona of his formative years, to culminate in the US and discover his period of splendor there.

Rafael Guastavino changed the construction system in the United States, where he exported an ancient tradition very common in the Mediterranean area. Its fireproof partitioned vault was one of its great discoveries.

A large number of iconic buildings in New York bear the signature of Guastavino's Company. His legacy can be seen in Carnegie Hall, the City Hall subway, Grand Central Station, the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine or the Queensborough Bridge. His mark was so deep in the city that in his obituary The New York Times he named it as The architect of New York.
