Börje Ekholm, new president and CEO of Ericsson
Ekholm has a solid understanding of both the technology and business effects of the ongoing convergence of telecommunications, information technology and media.
After the interim period that led to the departure of Hans Vestberg from the top executive position in Ericsson Last summer, the Swedish multinational just appointed Börje Ekholm as its new president and CEO.
Effective January 16, 2017, Ekholm will remain a member of the board of directors of Ericsson. Jan Frykhammar will remain interim CEO until that date.
Born in 1963, Börje Ekholm has a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and an MBA from INSEAD in France. He is a member of the board of directors of Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, Alibaba, NASDAQ OMX Group and Trimble Navigation. He is also a member of the university council of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
Chairman of the board, Leif Johansson, said: "Börje Ekholm has a solid understanding of both the technology and the business effects of the current convergence of telecommunications, information technology and media. Having been on Ericsson's management committee for the last ten years, Börje has a full understanding of the challenges and opportunities currently facing Ericsson."

According to Johansson, "in the midst of a major company transformation, I am confident that Ericsson will benefit from Börje Ekholm's unique ability to efficiently undertake strategic direction and plans. Börje brings years of experience having led a public company with a strong track record of delivering value to shareholders."
