Ericsson inaugurates a new Global Center for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

The center, located in Sweden, will support engineering on virtual platforms, with global test laboratories and IT platforms connected through a single virtual environment, to assist Ericsson in the development of 5G under one roof.

Ericsson has officially opened its Global Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Center in Rosersberg, Sweden. The highly scalable and sustainable facilities demonstrate Ericsson's ongoing commitment to R&D investment both in Sweden and around the world. This center also represents an important step in the company's ongoing transformation journey.

The Rosersberg centre, measuring around 20,000 m², is the first purpose-built Ericsson facility to open in Sweden. It follows the line of the Global ICT Center in Linköping inaugurated in 2014, which was built next to existing Ericsson facilities.

In addition to the two centers in Sweden, Ericsson will open another ICT center in Montreal in the second quarter of 2016.

Global ICT centers allow Ericsson to simulate a mobile operator network and test new solutions just as if they were running on a real network. In the near future, Ericsson customers will be able to connect remotely for interoperability testing, trials, early access and innovation on new offerings from anywhere.

These services will be delivered through ten upcoming centers to be announced in 2016, connected to global ICT centres. The centers will be powered by Ericsson cloud solutions and will house a substantial part of the company's product portfolio.

Ericsson's global ICT centers are an important step in achieving the company's sustainability goals. The centers' cutting-edge design, combined with modular and scalable construction, ensures efficient use of energy and space.

When the three centers are operational, Ericsson estimates that energy consumption can be reduced by 40% compared to that generated by the test laboratories in 2012.
