Globo inaugurates a new fully IP broadcast center based on Grass Valley technology
Grass Valley's signal processing and IP routing solutions allow the broadcaster to simplify its operations on Globo's two main channels, which cover the city and state of São Paulo.
Grass Valley has delivered a series of IP solutions for the new TV Globo broadcasting center in São Paulo (Brazil), where a new facility was launched with a all IP infrastructure for the transmission of Globo's two main channels, which cover the city and state of São Paulo. This is the largest Grass Valley IP deployment in Brazil, simplifying operations and providing a greater scalability.
Globo adopted a topology Spine and Leaf and has Control and Monitoring Orbit from Grass Valley for orchestration of the complete solution, including all gateways, GV IP Master Control mixer Masterpiece, the IP multiscreen GV MV-820 and third-party IP devices, taking advantage of the full interoperability of IP standards. End-to-end IP solution, based on the ST2110 standard, also includes switches Cisco and Master Sync Generators Tektronix. Grass Valley took charge of the implementation of the system and will provide any support necessary.
Globo chose Masterpiece because it is IP-based and because it fully integrated with the infrastructure designed for the project. It offers master control that can support multiple formats, channel branding, multi-channel video program distribution, and dynamic visual effects. The system also includes flexible audio capabilities and eliminates the need for external conversion. The small and compact MV-820-IP multi-display provides high-density I/O by offering 48 IP inputs and 12 IP outputs in a 2 RU chassis.
The supplier selection process began early last year, and after several stages of evaluation, including on-site and factory proof-of-concept efforts, Grass Valley became the chosen supplier. The deployment of the project on site was completed in record time and the system was inaugurated in June 2019.
Jorge Barrozo, project manager at TV Globo, considers that "throughout this project, I have been impressed by the commitment of the Grass Valley and Globo teams. Their efforts allowed the design, integration and delivery of the project to be carried out in just eight months, a very difficult deadline considering that it is a deployment of new technology and that there were a series of integrations to install throughout the workflow."
Globo has also implemented the user-configurable multichannel video over IP transceiver IQUCP25 Grass Valley IP Routing Controller IPEDGE-SRV-D and the flexible and dedicated control panel Luna.
Nahuel Villegas, vice president for the Caribbean and Latin America region at Grass Valley, comments that “in response to consumer demand for higher resolution content delivered on more platforms, the shift from SDI to IP offers a flexible, future-proof infrastructure that can adapt and scale as needed.”
"Strengthening our relationship with Globo, we are delighted that they have chosen us to help them make the transition to IP for their new facilities. This project is a great example of how Grass Valley has been working closely with clients in the LATAM region to offer solutions that help them build a successful media business," he concludes.
