Tektronix Prism bridges the gap between SDI and IP by integrating both signal types
The Prism platform offers a unique diagnostic and integration capability for SDI and IP signals, helping to quickly identify the cause of the error at either the IP or content layer.
Tektronix now has Prism, the first hybrid SDI/IP video monitoring and analysis platform that allows a smooth transition between the SDI standard and infrastructure based on IP networks. The new test and diagnostic solution that was presented at NAB 2016 is now available for marketing in Spain, through the Tektronix master distributor, Abacanto Solutions.
The broadcast industry is at the beginning of a revolutionary transition towards fully IP-based infrastructures. However, the large investments made in current technology and workflows indicate that this transition will be done in phases, creating the need for testing and monitoring solutions that provide visibility to these new types of problems, and also maintain coherence in the management carried out by operators and engineers in these new hybrid facilities. The Prism platform, together with the SPG-8000a hybrid sync generator (DARS/LTC/BB/TLS/PTP), addresses this new need with its unique ability to diagnose and integrate both types of SDI and IP signals, helping to quickly identify the cause of the error at either the IP or content layer.
Charlie Dunn, general manager of Tektronix's video product line, said: "With Prism, we are providing an essential tool for broadcasters and content creators that will give them confidence in developing IP installations. On top of new forms of analytics, we know that a big part of our job is helping our customers leverage existing workflows, talent and infrastructure as they embark on these changes. Going one step further, as the all-new software analytics platform, Prism also represents a solution for the future that will continue to give our clients the flexibility and knowledge they need well beyond the transition period.”
Prism allows the visualization of IP input signals and quick identification of the different flows of the Ethernet link. The content of each of the plots is shown through very intuitive screens that help shorten the users' learning curve. Additionally, as a software platform, Prism can adapt to a wide range of applications and will be continually updated as new technologies and standards emerge.
Main features
- “Packet Interval Histogram” and trend graphs help determine the cause of packet loss.
- On-screen graphics, along with a log, help resolve intermittent problems quickly.
- Thanks to its sync adjustment screen, it helps engineers quickly adjust the signal timeline within a hybrid PTP or black burst/tri-level sync environment.
