Mediapro puts all its technical and production knowledge at the service of the new type of competition captured with a total of thirty cameras.

Drone Riders

Barcelona Televisió (BTV) premiered the program last Sunday Drone Riders, whose goal is to turn drone racing into a television spectacle.

The involvement of the Mediapro group in this project from the beginning has been decisive in resolving the multiple technical challenges it involved. This type of competition is still in an initial phase of development due to the characteristics of the competition and the machines that participate.

Drone RidersMediapro's experience in other competitions has been decisive in providing solutions to these challenges. The main complexity of this production lies in how to capture and how to transmit the intensity of very short races that are carried out by very small devices that fly at more than 120 kilometers/hour.

Mediapro, with business units that cover the entire value chain of the audiovisual sector, has been able to offer a global solution that covers everything from the most technical part to the television production of the event. A team of 25 people covers each of the races to cover all the possibilities that the competition offers.

Drone RidersTo transmit the intensity of the race, a state-of-the-art camera with the minimum possible weight has been installed on top of each of the drones. To cover the circuit, 4 high-speed cameras have been installed and will offer slow motion images to appreciate every last detail of the competition. And, to get even more into the excitement of the race, the program will offer the images that the drivers see in their special glasses. All this with sound captured live.

The coverage of the race is done with a total of 30 cameras. This allows us to offer the event from all angles and all possible perspectives.

The main difficulty in broadcasting this type of events on television is the size of the competition drones (20 cm) and the high speed they achieve (up to 120 km). All of this makes the production of BTV and Mediapro a pioneer in this field where only the contributions of Eurosport and ESPN are known.
