Thanks to HEVC encoding, Netflix offers smooth 4K over bandwidths of just 3 Mbps. This service will now be available for Windows 10 devices equipped with a 7th generation Intel Core (Kaby Lake).

Netflix 4K

The contents of the Netflix movie and series streaming service will be available in 4K resolution for users of the service who have a 2-in-1 PC or Tablet that runs Windows 10 and has a screen capable of supporting this resolution.

This same month, Netflix's more than 80 million subscribers were offered the option to switch to an Ultra HD (UHD) subscription by paying just two extra dollars per month compared to their HD subscription.

Thanks to HEVC encoding, Netflix offers fluid 4K on bandwidths of just 3 Mbps. In the case of devices with Windows 10, they must also have a powerful graphics processor, a seventh-generation Intel Core (Kaby Lake) being recommended, and an Edge browser (leaving out other browsers such as Firefox or Chrome).

These technical needs will leave the vast majority of current Windows 10 users without the possibility of accessing 4K content, since there are very few devices with Kaby Lake processors on the market. Another issue has to do with security, since copy restrictions are perfectly implemented in Intel Kaby Lake.
