Huawei provides Altibox with its first 4K platform in Europe

The Chinese multinational will provide the Norwegian operator with both the UHD TV platform and the STBs.

Huawei will provide the Norwegian operator Altibox with both the new 4K Ultra High Definition television platform and the set-top boxes.

Øyvind Lundbakk, product director at Altibox, highlighted that "disseminating the best UHD images requires tremendous transmission capacity. In practice, it is only possible to do so on the best fiber networks. It is possible to distribute 4K images via satellite, however, a transfer of the highest quality requires satellite transponder capacity at high costs. In addition, satellite clients share a single stream, just as in linear television."

For his part, Eric Zhang, CEO of Huawei Norway, states that this "is a historic moment, not only for Altibox, but also for Huawei. In fact, it is the first launch of a 4K service from Huawei in Europe. We are very happy to provide a superior entertainment experience to the Norwegian population together with Altibox."
