The South Korean government plans to deregulate the domestic pay television industry to facilitate mergers and acquisitions between cable television, satellite broadcasting and IPTV service providers with the intention of improving their competitiveness in the global market.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning has assured that the government intends to apply the same regulation to the entire national pay television industry, unifying the operating licenses of cable TV, satellite broadcasting and IPTV service providers.
