The monthly evolution shows a growing trend and pay television as a whole closes the last month of the year at 20.7%.

Television consumption through some of the payment methods represents 20.4% on average in 2016, which is its historical maximum, according to the latest report from Windward Communication based on data from Kantar Media.

It is worth noting that in terms of payment, the audiences of all the channels that are integrated into the different payment platforms are included: Cable (Telecable, Mundo-R, Euskaltel...), IPTV (MovistarTV, Jazztel, Vodafone, Orange TV) and Digital Satellite (Movistar+) and adds the quotas of national, regional and thematic televisions.

In 2016, the penetration of pay television is close to 16 million Spaniards, that is, 35% of individuals aged 4 or over in Spain are subscribers or receive some form of pay TV; cable, IPTV or digital satellite.

Pay television represents 20.4% of television consumption in Spain in 2016. Within the pay TV quota, free-to-air channels represent 68% and paid themes, 32.7% (7% of total television).

The group of paid themes (around 90 channels) represents 7% of the total television audience, with a daily coverage of 6.3 million and 20 million in the total of 2016, that is, 14% of the population watches at least one minute of Paid Themes per day and in the cumulative period for the period the accumulated audience is 45%.

The ranking of paid themed channels in the last year is headed by Fox (6.4% share of the Paid Themed market), TNT (4.9%), Bein Liga (4.8%), AXN (4.6%) and Canal Hollywood (4%), among the top five.

The results of the Payment Themes stand out in the Autonomous Communities of the Balearic Islands (13.5% TTV quota), where it is the leading option, in Asturias (10.8%), in the Basque Country (8.8%) and in the Canary Islands (8%).

Most viewed broadcasts

The most watched online broadcast of the year for paid themes corresponds to the Barcelona-Real Madrid match (Being Liga, December 3, 2016) with 2,214,000 average audience viewers and 76.2% of the screen share of the paid themes market.

For its part, on a delayed basis the most followed was The Walking dead (Fox, December 5, 2016) with 422,000 average audience viewers.

The most watched film of 2016 on pay-per-view thematic channels is The Jungle Book (Movistar Estrenos, December 25, 2016) with 94,000 average audience viewers and a 7.7% paid audience share.

In the sum of the most delayed linear, the most viewed film was Eight Catalan Surnames (Movistar Estrenos, June 24, 2016) which accumulated an average audience of 309,000 viewers in both viewing dimensions.
