VideoReferee, the video assistance system increasingly adopted in more sporting events, will be present at NAB 2017

VideoReferee is being used more and more in national and international championships of all kinds. He recently played a prominent role in the Eurocup held in Lithuania.

Since its launch three years ago, the assistance system for referees and sports Thursdays of Slomo.tv VideoReferee is being used more and more in national and international championships of all kinds. One of these competitions that makes extensive use of the system is the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) which is using VideoReferee-B in all its games. The system has proven its reliability and ease of use and was therefore selected to assist the referees of the Basketball Eurocup recently held in Lithuania.

Because the sports venue's scoreboard controller could not be connected directly to the VideoReferee, the system was used in a five-channel configuration: four channels in normal mode to record game action and one channel to record the scoreboard view. In this setup, VideoReferee made use of its new scoreboard feature, added to the system with a recent update, which allows display of scoreboard data during playback directly as PIP. In order to make the scoreboard available to the judges, a selected portion of the scoreboard was included as a Picture In Picture (PIP) during search and playback.

The operator selected the marker area displayed in the system settings. While playing/searching any channel, this part of the marker was displayed in the corner of the screen. For systems with a limited number of channels (VideoReferee-B, -Jr or -SR) there is a special Marking Camera Option, which provides an additional external input channel via the USB interface. Generally, any camera with SDI or HDMI output or even consumer camcorders can be used to capture the score.

Video assisted refereeing for the matches was provided by Lithuanian broadcaster Zoom.TV, which has many years of experience using Slomo.tv replay servers. For the broadcast of these matches, the standard Simple R 331 replay server was used.

Slomo.Tv will show at NAB 2017 in collaboration with the integrator Broadcast Solutions all the possibilities of the system including the new function that allows you to view the score data during playback directly as PIP.
