Ericsson announced at NAB 2017 the launch of a new primary distribution system for Televisa, the largest media and content company in the Spanish-speaking world and the first in Mexico.

The system selected by Televisa includes Ericsson's AVP encoder, with the latest HEVC video compression module; the MX8400 multiplexer and various RX8200 HEVC receivers with integrated DVB-S2X modulators.

By incorporating both DVB-S2X and HEVC, Televisa can increase the amount of high definition services it distributes, and at the same time, maintain the best image quality without the need for additional bandwidth. Additionally, the network has chosen the nCompass Director system management platform, which incorporates conditional access and software download capabilities to offer a more flexible approach, allowing it to manage and protect the content it offers to its users.

This new primary distribution system makes it easier for Televisa to efficiently send content to ATSC stations, distributed throughout Mexico.

Elisabetta Romano, vice president and director of TV and Media Solutions at Ericsson, states that "this new agreement was the next objective in our long relationship with Televisa. The Ericsson range, which incorporates HEVC HD compression and DVB-S2X transmission technology, will play a fundamental role in allowing the delivery of more expansive HD content, without the need to expand valuable satellite bandwidth. Televisa has the prestige of being a pioneer in Mexican television and the media industry, by implementing new standards technologies that include MPEG-4 AVC, DVB-S2 and now, HEVC and DVB-S2X. We hope that our relationship with Televisa will continue to grow in the coming years.

Ericsson has been working with Televisa for more than 25 years; Almost a decade ago, the Swedish company helped Televisa migrate from its original system supplied by Ericsson, the 2SD one, to the MPEG-4 AVC SD and HD architecture, which made Televisa the first broadcaster in the market with HDTV in Mexico.
