Canon adds the new C200 camera to its EOS Cine 4K range
Supporting the new Cinema RAW Light recording format, the EOS C200 offers the same flexibility in color grading as Cinema RAW, but in a smaller file size, which will allow filmmakers to record internally to a CFast 2.0 card.
Canon has added the new C200 camera to its EOS Cine 4K range. As the first EOS Cine camera to support the new Cinema RAW Light recording format, the EOS C200 offers the same flexibility in color grading as Cinema RAW, but in a smaller file size, allowing filmmakers to record internally to a CFast 2.0 card.
The new Canon Dual DIGIC DV6 processors provide the ability to record internally 4K UHD/50P MP4, 4K DCI RAW and continuous high speed recording (HFR) at 120 fps, in Full HD, without cropping. At the same time, advances in Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus technology and a new touchscreen LCD provide smooth AF operation and effective subject tracking.
Canon Super CMOS 35mm 4K
The EOS C200 features a Canon 4K Super 35mm CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of 8.85 megapixels, along with the new Dual DIGIC DV6 processors. For all this, it allows recording in Cinema RAW Light, at 4K DCI 50P, internally, on a CFast 2.0 card. You can also record 4K UHD at 150 Mbps and 2K or Full HD at 35 Mbps to SD cards in MP4 format.
With up to 15 stops of dynamic range with Cinema RAW Light and up to 13 stops of dynamic range in MP4 (Canon Log and Canon Log 3), the camera is perfect for capturing details in both highlights and shadows.
The EOS C200 is also capable of both slow and fast recordings, at up to 120 fps, without cropping, in Full HD/MP4, ideal for those who want creative slow motion recordings. On the other hand, the built-in optical neutral density (ND) filters, up to 10 stops, provide greater flexibility and convenience, allowing filmmakers to shoot in bright light and expand control over depth of field.
Compact and light
The EOS C200 features an advanced AF system for reliability and precision when shooting in 4K, as well as a touchscreen LCD so filmmakers can easily select their subject. For those who need to effortlessly switch between multiple subjects in a scene, Dual Pixel CMOS AF enables continuous AF operation, while the Manual Focus Assist Function and Face-Priority and Face-Only Face Detection options offer greater creative focus control.
The EOS C200's lightweight body, weighing just 1.4 kilos, has been designed for comfortable handheld recording, an advantage for those recording for long periods. The compact size also makes it suitable for mounting on a drone or gimbal.
Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections allow remote control via a browser and file transfer via FTP, while camera compatibility options mean you can use new and current accessories, including Canon's electronic viewfinder, the EVF-V70.
Cinema RAW Light, for next-generation workflows
Canon has worked with various partners to ensure the integration of Cinema RAW Light with various software programs. As a result, Cinema RAW Light video format editing and grading will be supported in Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve. Editing will be possible with Avid Technology's Media Composer, using the Canon RAW Plugin for Avid Media Access. This format can also be processed using a Canon application, Cinema RAW Development.
Support for Cinema RAW Light is also planned for EDIUS Pro, Grass Valley's editing software, during 2017. In addition, a future version of Apple Inc.'s Final Cut Pro
Canon's XF-AVC video format will be available with a future firmware update. This update will be free and its availability is expected in the first half of 2018.
