Canon has announced at NAB the firmware update for its professional cameras EOS C200, EOS C300 Mark II, XF405, XF400, EOS C700 and EOS C700 GS PL. Major improvements include the addition of Canon's XF-AVC (MXF) video format for the XF405, XF400 and C200. The XF-AVC (MXF) format provides greater efficiency in high-quality UHD and HD recordings, as well as improving production workflows.
Recordings made with the Canon EOS C200, EOS C700, EOS C700 GS and EOS C300 Mark II will now automatically have lens metadata inserted, including actual focal length data and not just the full frame equivalent.
Improvements in touchscreen sensitivity will allow EOS C200 and EOS C300 Mark II users to enjoy more precise focus point selection.
The firmware update also ensures compliance with Wireless File Transmitter (WFT) regulations when the WFT-E8 Wi-Fi adapter is attached to the EOS C700, EOS C700 GS PL or EOS C300 Mark II.
New 4K lenses
In Las Vegas, Canon has also launched a new field telephoto lens, the UJ66x9B, and three ENG broadcast lenses: the CJ24ex7.5B, CJ18ex7.6B and the CJ14ex4.3B. Grouped within a new category, called UHDgc, these models are characterized by fluid operation, maintaining high levels of quality in their construction.
Created with Canon's exceptional optical design technology, the CJ24ex7.5B, CJ18ex7.6B and CJ14ex4.3B provide 4K resolution, from the center to the edges of the image. Special coatings and internal structures are designed to prevent reflections and reduce ghosting and ghosting, allowing the camera operator to capture high-quality images.
Thanks to an optimized arrangement of fluorite and UD glass, chromatic aberration is minimized, providing greater clarity. Features such as not losing sharpness or having chromatic aberration at the edges of the image are essential for events such as sporting events or concerts, where viewers want to enjoy a full and highly detailed experience.
Thanks to their compact and lightweight bodies, the CJ24ex7.5B, CJ18ex7.6B and CJ14ex4.3B lenses provide the camera operator with excellent mobility, ideal for documentary and news recording. An ergonomically designed grip makes the lenses fit comfortably in your hand, providing excellent feel and minimal shoulder strain.
UJ66x9B
To achieve 66x magnification in a focal range of 9 mm to 1,200 mm, high-quality optical materials have been used in the UJ66x9B lens. A new floating internal focus system provides an even further improvement in resolution, enabling top-notch 4K image quality.
This new lens also provides excellent focus management, even in the most difficult situations, such as following a player running down the sideline. It provides stable servo performance (high-speed zoom in 0.6 seconds) from its angular position to the tele, allowing the camera operator to confidently capture 4K content, for example, during a fast-moving sports activity. Even the smallest vibration can affect image quality when recording in 4K, but thanks to the UJ66x9B's built-in Image Stabilization (IS), the technologies employed in the lens ensure 4K performance in unstable recording circumstances, even in panoramas.
