Intel technology makes an immersive experience possible for 'Dunkirke'

La última película de Christopher Nolan ofrece al espectador una experiencia en realidad virtual desarrollada por Practical Magic.

Intel ha colaborado con Warner Bros y Practical Magic para proporcionar una experiencia en Realidad Virtual (Virtual Reality Experience, VRE) para Dunkerque, la última película de Christopher Nolan

Dunkirk VRE coloca al espectador en cada una de las tres perspectivas de la película: tierra, mar y aire. Con contenidos personalizados disponibles como vídeo de 360º y alta resolución dentro de esta VRE, los espectadores pueden participar de una narración cinematográfica épica sobre la esencial Batalla de Dunkerque que tuvo lugar durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, para disfrutar de esta experiencia justo antes del estreno de la película el próximo 21 de julio.

En el proceso habitual de postproducción para este tipo de experiencias inmersivas, los flujos de trabajo se optimizaron para medios estándar en HD y 4K. Para hacer realidad la experiencia inmersiva de Dunkirk VRE, the production teams worked at about 40 times this resolution. The computing demands of this process required that all workstations, blade servers, video cards, software stacks, and storage systems operate at maximum efficiency. Slow response or malfunctioning systems could frustrate artists, increase costs and waste valuable time.

Por ello, Practical Magic eligió hardware y software basado en tecnologías de Intel para crear el VRE. La compañía especializada en VR logró este hito en el menor tiempo posible con el uso de servidores blade Dell M1000E equipados con procesadores Intel Xeon, para crear unas imágenes en alta resolución, con baja latencia y sensación de tiempo real. Los núcleos de los procesadores Intel Xeon incorporados en estos servidores blade realizaron una magnífica renderización de múltiples procesos, mientras que un sistema de renderización independiente con CPU equipados con procesadores Intel Core i7 6700K se encargó de la renderización de procesos/núcleos únicos.

Practical Magic created this Hollywood-quality work using Dell Precision workstations, also equipped with Intel Xeon processors. Collaborating with high-fidelity content throughout this project, the visual artists relied on Intel's 10GbE network to increase the speed of the SAN, providing 10GbE to all workstations. Intel architecture-based technologies used in Dell Precision workstations further enhanced authoring and processing workflows, providing real-time access to high-resolution media throughout the post-production process. Premium content experiences also require security at the hardware level, from the cloud to client devices. Intel security features protect premium content on digital devices, networks and servers, without compromising the user experience.

To push virtual reality technology further, the production demands for Dunkirk VRE required the best equipment, the most advanced software and the most outstanding techniques to meet the schedule and creative needs of one of Hollywood's most talented directors. From the most important Hollywood studios that have created Dunkerque y Spider-Man to his work with the most esteemed content creators, both established and A.R.
