Sony launches first 4K laser digital cinema projectors, compatible with HDR and with high contrast ratio
With HDR support and a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1, the SRX-R800 series combines native 4K SXRD technology with a durable laser light source to deliver excellent image quality.
Sony has confirmed the launch of a new range of 4K laser digital cinema projectors. The SRX-R800 series is the first digital cinema projection system to combine Sony's next-generation native 4K SXRD technology with a long-lasting laser light source. Thanks to the latest advances in Sony's SXRD optical panel technology, it achieves a contrast ratio of 10,000:1. This makes any model in the SRX-R800 series a perfect choice for enjoying HDR content, offering movie audiences an even more immersive entertainment experience.
In addition to ensuring exceptional native 4K image quality and natural color reproduction, laser light technology offers highly efficient lamp-free operation and smudge-free images. The long-life light source maintains 80% of the original brightness level for up to 35,000 hours of operation, dramatically reducing maintenance needs compared to conventional xenon lamps.
The SRX-R800 series, which was previewed at this year's CineEurope event in Barcelona, includes four models compatible with the DCI standard (the SRX-R815P and SRX-815DS will be launched in Europe). Perfect for small and medium-sized auditoriums, the SRX-R810P and SRX-R815P offer a rated output of 7,500 and 15,000 lumens respectively. Meanwhile, the SRX-R810DS 15,000 lumen dual projection system, coupled with the SRX-R815DS, which offers an impressive 30,000 lumen output, is ideal for larger movie theaters; more than enough to deliver brilliant 4K presentations on today's large format displays.
The four high-contrast projection systems can be easily configured for 3D projections, delivering smooth, eye-pleasing images without flicker effects. The SRX-R810DS and SRX-R815DS dual projection systems make big-screen 3D presentations even easier, without the need for lens changes.
The operation of the projector is controlled through a large, very intuitive 15-inch touch panel. Seamless integration with Sony Theater Management Systems and other compatible theater management systems allows operators to configure projectors, manage content and create complete schedules.
Oliver Pasch, Sales Director for Sony Digital Cinema 4K, said: "We are delighted to offer cinema owners an even wider range of projection options. The new R800 series, complementing our popular R500 series, allows operators to enjoy industry-leading Sony 4K image quality with the highest contrast ratio offered by any SRX series projector to date, making it possible to provide audiences with greater realism when viewing images. images.”
The SRXR815P and SRX-815DS 4K laser digital cinema projectors are now available for pre-order and will be released in Europe in winter 2017.
The series, depending on screen size and use, will be composed of these models: SRX-R815P (15,000 lumens, single model), SRX-R810P (7,500 lumens, single model), SRX-R815DS (30,000 lumens, dual projection system) and SRX-R810DS (15,000 lumens, dual projection system).
