Arista is demonstrating at IBC 2017 that a seamless transition to a more agile media environment based on IP and standard protocols is possible.
The transition to IP for broadcasters and production companies will mean new market opportunities and agility on the network. Although the advantages are evident in terms of speed or bandwidth, Ethernet networks were not natively designed for video transport, so solutions such as those provided by Arista allow medium-sized companies to get the most out of an IP environment without headaches. To this end, it offers telemetry and management solutions that allow Ethernet technology to be understood with video in the most natural way possible, promoting network structures, which in principle were not designed for video, capable of detecting when a harmful situation for video/audio may occur.
Although any network is capable of moving IP packets, when working with video there are a series of rules to follow that with the help of companies like Arista are easily assumed in relation to latency, network congestion, available bandwidth... Arista's APIs allow switchers to "talk" with controllers from different manufacturers within the same network. And all of this occurs in a fully monitored environment, which allows you to react in time to any failure, mitigate it, cushion it or avoid it in the future.
IP networks have hardware components based on standards, but the key is in the software. Arista's operating system has an API designed especially for media that understands the needs of video controllers, abstracts this layer and provides everything necessary to ensure that the audio/video arrives with maximum quality between different points.
Arista's technology carries out this entire process out of band, monitoring traffic in real time through mirror copies so in no case would the production flow be affected.
Interoperability
On the other hand, at Arista they are convinced that the key is in interoperability, as is becoming evident in the IBC IP Showcase area in which several industry associations such as AIMS together with partners such as Aja, Avid, Evertz, EVS, Grass Valley, Harmonic, Imagine Communications or Lawo are demonstrating that harmonizing the production and distribution of content based on IP is a tangible reality.
At its stand, Arista has also displayed a network headend with several ingestions and distribution points in which its solutions interact with technologies from other manufacturers such as Imagine Communications, EVS, Utah Scientific or Grass Valley. In this demonstration the Arista application programming interface (API) plays a key role in network visibility, band control and resource management throughout the entire workflow.
We can also appreciate the possibilities that Arista offers in the mobile unit that Timeline has moved to IBC since the entire core of the video bears the Arista seal.
Finally, it should be noted that Arista's Networking Driven Cloud platforms offer high-speed storage and scalability and network performance necessary even for video up to 4K.
