The Hispasat 4K International Short Film Festival announces the finalists
The festival selects 16 short films, recorded and post-produced entirely in 4K, as finalists in the third edition of the contest. The six winning works will be announced during the closing gala that will take place on October 19 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
The Hispasat 4K International Short Film Festival, one of the first competitions in the world dedicated to short films recorded and post-produced entirely in 4K, has just announced the finalist short films for its third edition.
A total of 127 short films from 17 different countries have been entered in the third edition of this pioneering contest organized by the satellite operator Hispasat, which represents an increase of close to 26% compared to 2016. Data that confirms the progressive increase in 4K content and the expansion of this technology. The call was open to works recorded and post-produced entirely in 4K, made after January 1, 2015, of any nationality and genre, with a maximum duration of 25 minutes.
The jury in charge of deciding the awards for this third edition is made up of actress Marian Álvarez (Golden Leopard for best female performance at the Locarno Festival for her role in Lo mejor de mí, Silver Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival for her performance in The wound), the director and playwright Juan Cavestany (That feeling, People in places, I have boats, 2008 Max Award for best author in Spanish for Urtain's libretto), actress Nathalie Poza (The other side of the bed, Juliet, Silver Biznaga for Best Leading Actress at the last edition of the Malaga Festival for I don't want to say goodbye), Jesús Ulled Nadal (director of CINE365 Film), Guillermo Niño (Senior Manager, Broadcast, OTT and Home Video at Dolby Laboratories), Edith Martínez Odriozola (director of the Culture and Society Area of TVE), Miguel Ángel Doncel (executive director of Sgo), Santiago Sanz (commercial manager of optical devices at Fujifilm Spain), Javier Valdés (founding partner of Ad Hoc Studios) and Luis León Luri (programming and management area of Atresmedia content). Ignacio Sanchis (Business Director of Hispasat) is the president of the jury.
The Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid will host the event's programming on October 19. Activities will take place throughout the day, including the preview in Madrid of The Maus, the long-awaited leap to feature film by Yayo Herrero after his successful career as a short film director. In 2014, Yayo Herrero won the Cine365 Film production company award for directing a feature film. The Maus, a fantastic horror drama with a dark and magical atmosphere, is the result of this collaboration. The 16 finalist short films of this third edition of the Hispasat 4K Festival are once again competing for this award that focuses on emerging talent.
Several round tables will also be held in which prominent representatives of technology companies will debate with those from the world of cinema about the opportunities and challenges offered by this new Ultra High Definition standard for film production. The highlight of the day will be the awards gala and the 4K screening of the winning short films.
