RTVE participates in 62 film projects so far in years
The Corporation has participated in 30 feature films such as 'Campeones', 'Loving Pablo', 'My Love Lost' or 'The Silence of the Marsh' and 29 documentaries dedicated to cultural figures (Vargas Llosa, Antonio López, Ibarrola, Enrique Granados...) and history.
Spanish Television has participated so far this year in 62 film projects, which include 30 films and 29 documentaries. It also continues to be its best showcase: La 1 and La 2 have broadcast 650 films in the last year, almost 90% of the Spanish titles that have been programmed on television. These are data from the balance offered this Thursday at the 65th San Sebastián International Film Festival, in a press conference with the team of the calla, a film participated by RTVE that arrives in theaters this Friday and will premiere tonight at the Victoria Eugenia Theater along with its protagonists.
During the presentation held at the Kursaal, TVE's Director of Film and Fiction, Fernando López Puig, underlined the “honour” that it means for RTVE to be at the San Sebastián Film Festival for another year. “RTVE's dedication to cinema is absolute – in promotion, in broadcasting… – and this has been a year especially rich in awards for films in which we participated.”
Participation in 30 films
RTVE has participated in 30 Spanish films so far this year, including Champions, the new film by Javier Fesser; Loving Pablo, by Fernando León de Aranoa, present at the Venice, Toronto and San Sebastián Festivals; My lost love, the new comedy by Emilio Martínez Lázaro; either 70 binladen's, by Koldo Serra. Once again, public television continues to bet on talent and new directors with projects such as The Silence of the swamp, by Marc Vigil, director of The Ministry of Time; or international co-production Paradise Hillsby Alice Waddington. And this 2017 there has been no shortage of participation in animated films, with titles such as Dinogames y Elkano. Furthermore, in San Sebastián, The Call, by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, with Macarena García, Anna Castillo, Belén Cuesta, Gracia Olayo and Richard Collins-Moore.
In the field of documentaries, RTVE has participated in 29 productions. Those dedicated to cultural figures stand out, such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Antonio López, Agustín Ibarrola, Enrique Granados, or Baltasar Lobo. Also international co-production The Indian Fleet, y The painting. Stories of the Meninas, which will take an approach to how Velázquez's work has influenced other artists. In addition, historical documentaries about the figure of Emperor Hadrian, another about the role of the Jesuits in the Amazon; and a third about the legends of aviation in Spain.
Cinema on TVE
RTVE consolidates itself as the main showcase of Spanish cinema. La 1 and La 2 have been the channels that have programmed the most Spanish films in the last year, with 650 titles, compared to 78 of all private channels combined. In total, La 1 has broadcast 86 (18 more than the previous year) and La 2, 564. This is 89.39% of Spanish cinema broadcast on general free-to-air channels. 330 of these titles have been broadcast in prime time. In total, 38.5 million viewers have watched Spanish cinema on TVE at some point in the last year. On La 1, the most followed film has been 22 angels, with 1.7 million (10%), while For a handful of dollars has been the most watched on La 2: 1,126,000 viewers (8%), a historical record for History of our cinema.
