Bildquadrat Videoproductions, based in Neuss, Germany and a leading production service provider, has upgraded its main mobile unit with Riedel.

This unit was put into operation in 2015 based on a signal transport backbone network powered by Riedel's MediorNet real-time network, including a MediorNet MicroN 80G media distribution interface. Now, with the upgrade, Bildquadrat has expanded MediorNet's integrated transport, routing, signal processing and enhanced communications capabilities with the installation of a Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom system.

UM Bildquadrat VideoproductionsThe unit features a compact, fully modular design that can be easily adapted for mobile productions of all types and sizes. The integrated MediorNet and MicroN devices are connected via a 10 Gbps fiber optic network to create a fully redundant decentralized routing matrix.

The company has also deployed MediorNet frames in mobile stageboxes, giving the production team the flexibility to deploy the solution's signal processing capabilities anywhere. Each stagebox is pre-configured as a mobile unit and equipped with microphone and internal systems, saving time and eliminating the hassle of on-set integration.

Niklas Windeck, co-founder of Bildquadrat, said: "In less than two years, our mobile unit has handled a wide range of high-profile live entertainment and sports productions for many of Europe's biggest names in the audiovisual industry. Its success is due in large part to Riedel's pioneering solutions. We designed the unit from the ground up as a showcase for file-based workflows, and our partnership with Riedel means we can continue to support our clients in their continued migration to IP operations.

In the new redesign of the unit, MediorNet MicroN of Riedel offers a compact and multifunctional signal interface that powers an 80G media network in a single RU. With the update, Bildquadrat has expanded the MediorNet decentralized routing array with seven MicroN high-density media distribution network devices that can be deployed in a modular manner for a variety of uses. One of the MicroN devices functions as a dedicated multi-display using the MediorNet MultiViewer application.

Moritz Wermeister, founder of Bildquadrat, acknowledges that "our customers love Riedel's decentralized routing approach to live broadcasts because it reduces potential points of failure. Additionally, because physical I/O is close to where it is needed, operations are more efficient and copper is reduced."

UM Bildquadrat VideoproductionsFor intercom, the mobile unit has incorporated a new Artist 64 Mainframe. Riedel's RSP-2318 smart panels offer an intelligent intercom control surface that leverages AES67 and AVB standards to provide an expandable yet simplified intercom interface. Riedel MADI client cards provide a seamless interface between Artist 64 and UM audio consoles, while Riedel's RiFace G2 universal radio interface links the Artist 64 to Bildquadrat walkie-talkie-style radio systems.

Katharina Kornek, Broadcast Sales Manager at Riedel, noted that “Bildquadrat broke new ground with the launch of the innovative mobile unit, based on a modular and compact design that offers customers maximum flexibility and a significant price advantage for live productions. This unit is also a showcase of Riedel's latest innovations in integrated signal processing capabilities, including one of the first implementations of our MediorNet MultiViewer. “It is a privilege to help Bildquadrat continue to grow its capabilities in mobile units and lead it towards an IP-based future.”
