Conviva opens office in Spain
The company aims to expand its AI-based video platform to one of Europe's leading OTT markets.
Following office openings in France, China and India in 2017, Madrid is now coming to join the venues what Live It is spread all over the world from Silicon Valley, London, Paris, New York to Bangaluru, Beijing, Singapore and Melbourne.
Conviva's objective with the opening of its headquarters in Madrid is expand its video platform based on Artificial Intelligence to one of the mercados OTT leaders of Europe. Its specialty is the measurement and analytics of what has been called the next generation of television associated with over-the-top (OTT) services.
Although the opening of the office in Madrid takes place now, Conviva has been working for some time with Spanish clients of the caliber of Telefónica (Movistar+), while among its international clients we find traditional broadcasters and new players such as HBO, Sky, BT, ESPN or Hulu.

As for Spain, it ranked second among European countries in terms of viewing time, fourth in total number of plays, fourth in average minutes per video viewed and sixth in average completion rate. In addition, the Spanish market has two cities, Madrid and Barcelona, in the ranking of the ten with the longest OTT video viewing time worldwide.
Spain, growing market
In addition to its strong viewing data, Spain is a growing market and with great potential in terms of pay television. Total income in this sector grew by 14.7% in 2017, reaching 1,042 million euros until June. In comparison, this figure is greater than the 981 million euros generated in that same period by the television duopoly of Mediaset and Atresmedia, which represent 95% of FTA (free-to-air) TV revenues in the region.
Spain's leaders in the OTT space include Telefónica setting the bar with its Movistar Plus service which has 3.6 million subscribers and revenue of €842 million, followed by Vodafone with 1.3 million subscribers and €113.6 million in revenue, and Orange with 528,000 subscribers and €24.8 million in revenue (CNMC data).
The Conviva's global presence spans more than 180 countries, all global CDNs, 1,200+ ISPs globally, and 2,100+ types of video applications. Across Conviva's global customer base, 12.6 billion viewing hours were measured in 2017, double the number in 2016. Views also increased in 2017 to 38.8B in total, a growth of 74% compared to the previous year.
