The thirteen categories of these awards recognize technological solutions, installations and projects, as well as technical execution in television, radio, film and advertising productions. The readers of Panorama Audiovisual until April 2 and subsequently a jury made up of eleven prominent professionals in a secret vote before a Notary will be in charge of choosing the winners of these awards whose presentation will take place on May 8 at IFEMA – Feria de Madrid.

Panorama Awards 2018 (Nominees)

Panorama Audiovisual, a reference publication for audiovisual professionals, has announced the nominees for the 2018 Panorama Awards.

These biennial awards recognize excellence, technological development and innovation of companies, professionals and productions in television, film, radio and advertising.

Its thirteen categories recognize technological equipment and solutions, installations and projects, as well as the technical execution of television and radio programs, film productions and advertising pieces.

From 0 a.m. this Monday, March 5, to 11:55 p.m. on April 2, Panorama Audiovisual readers will be able to vote online for a finalist in each category among the five nominees proposed by the publication's editors or designate their own.

The three most voted candidates in each category will be made public on April 3, moving to a second phase in which a Jury, made up of eleven independent professionals of recognized solvency and in a secret vote before a Notary, will choose the winners.

During the Panorama Awards gala that will take place on the evening of Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at IFEMA-Feria de Madrid, coinciding with the opening of the BIT Audiovisual Professional Audiovisual Technology Show, in addition to the winners in each of the thirteen categories, the Panorama Lifetime Award will be presented.

In previous editions, Manuel Romero received this award, for his long professional career dedicated to the coverage of the Olympic Games from México 68, both in the summer and winter Olympic events; and Chema Prado, in recognition of his firm commitment to the custody, recovery, research and conservation of cinematographic heritage at the head of the Spanish Film Archive during the last three decades.

Panorama Awards Nominees

Among the nominees for company of the year, stand out a multinational that celebrates one hundred years of history (Panasonic), the EVS subsidiary in Spain and Portugal (which is precisely now celebrating ten years since the opening of its headquarters in Madrid), an integrator that in just four years has managed to position itself as a benchmark in project development (Datos Media); a Madrid company (Summus Render) that has internationally launched a cloud-based virtual animation studio; and a wholesaler, Charmex, with a clear international vocation and a portfolio that is continually expanding.

As for the most outstanding installations, the new set of Telenews (Telemadrid); the renovation of Mediaset España's studios and mobile units, including a new TV sound methodology supported by an integrated audio and communications network, based on Dante, MADI and SIP standards; the new filing system for sports from the British Timeline TV developed by the Spanish Tedial; the Atresmedia performance controls cluster; and the comprehensive digitization of the production and archive of Televisión de Galicia.

Five cameras will compete for the Panorama Award for best capture technology: Venice (Sony), URSA Broadcast (Blackmagic), Epic-W 8K (RED), AU-EVA1 (Panasonic), and 8C-B60A 8K (Sharp).

In the media storage and management category, we find five very diverse options ranging from Fujifilm's tape-based dternity system, to the Dalet orchestration system, through the Ki Pro Ultra Plus (AJA) recorders/players and the T2 series (Grass Valley) or the Xyrus media management, contribution and distribution system from the Spanish Estructure.

In studio solutions, the nominees are the new Bolero intercom system from Riedel, X-One (EVS), Tricaster TC1-4K IP (NewTek), Graphite (Ross Video) and the ATEM 2 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K mixer (Blackmagic).

Ooyala Flex (Ooyala), Media Services Live (Akamai), Selenio One XC (Imagine) RelayCaster (Rohde&Schwartz) y S-Core (EVS) optarán al Premio Panorama a la mejor tecnología de emisión y distribución.

Regarding post-production, Panorama Audiovisual readers and the jury will have to choose between these options: Media Composer Fisrt (Avid), 3DS Max 2018 (Autodesk), Fusion 9 (Blackmagic), IO 4K Plus (AJA) and Edius 9 (Grass Valley).

For the graphic creation category, the proposals from the Panorama editorial team are OnMedia 3D (developed by Brainstorm and Never.no), Live Compositor (ChyronHego), 4Designer (Avid), Virtual Ser (WASP3D) and NVG1 (designed by NewTek and Vizrt).

As far as audio is concerned, three wireless microphone systems (Evolution G4 from Sennheiser, Series 5000 from Audio-Technica and Axient Digital Wireless from Shure), studio monitors (8331, 8341 and 8351 The Ones, from Genelec) and a digital mixing console (Rivage PM7 from Yamaha) are up for prize.

Technical execution

In the section of technical execution in radio, television, film and advertising production, these are the productions that the Panorama Audiovisual editorial team proposes to its readers and jury.

En radio, parten como nominadas un formato innovador como las ficciones sonoras inmersivas de RNE con sonido binaural; dos clásicos de la radio deportiva, Carrusel Deportivo (BE) and Tiempo de juego (COPE); y dos magazines, uno de tarde como Julia on the Wave (Onda Cero) and an “alarm clock” like Good morning Javi and Mar (String 100).

Survivors 2018 (Telecinco), To Fish (Movistar+), The cable girls (Netflix), Operation Triumph (TVE)y Spanish World Heritage Cities (TVE) are among the quintet nominated for best technical production on television.

The Panorama Awards have evaluated the technical execution of these five nominated films: Verónica, Estiu 1993 (Summer 1993), Handia, Gold y Hostile Zone.

Finally, in advertising production the award will go to one of these five productions: Danielle (Lotteries), forever and ever (Audi), Happy Time – Pinball (Endesa), The ceremony (Magnum) y The Future already has memories (AVE).

Antonio Castillo, director of Panorama Audiovisual, highlighted that "these awards, a benchmark for the entire audiovisual sector, are a true reflection of the commitment to research and development of new solutions in an industry marked by convergence and in which software and hardware allow broadcasters and operators to distribute content to multiple platforms and devices anywhere and at any time."

"On the other hand, the nominations for awards that value technical execution in television, film, radio and advertising once again show that the Spanish audiovisual industry is achieving excellence as demonstrated by levels of internationalization unknown to date. The professionals who make these productions possible with the latest technological innovations along with their high competence see their efforts recognized with these awards," he adds.

"The Panorama Awards ceremony that will take place in the evening of May 8 at IFEMA-Feria de Madrid, coinciding with the start of an unmissable event for professionals in the sector, BIT Audiovisual, will be held for the first time in a unique venue. The famous Madrid Fashion Week catwalk will host a gala this year that will transport the public to the night of the big city illuminated by neon," he concludes.
