MAC 2018 will examine the current moment with an eye toward the future

The 19th edition of the Mercat Audiovisual de Catalunya (MAC) will also host a day dedicated to radio in Catalonia.

The 19th edition of Audiovisual Market of Catalonia (MAC) will once again take the pulse of the Catalan audiovisual sector, which is experiencing a period of uncertainty due to the sociopolitical situation. But it overcomes this and has once again drawn the main lines of what will be the evolution of the sector in the future in a program that will include technological innovation, digital transformation, new formats and screens.

In parallel to these thematic nuclei, the MAC 2018 will host a radio day, thematically focused on radio podcasts, a new growth engine for stations and networks that can help consolidate and expand their digital audiences. The day will open with a round table where great voices from Catalan public and private radio, which we will announce soon, will offer their point of view. The program will be completed with several sessions and a podcaster workshop where radio content creators will present their programs and share their experiences in first person.

Four thematic axes

The analysis of the delicate moment of precariousness that the audiovisual fabric in Catalonia is going through due to the uncertainty of the political and economic context is the first vertex of the MAC 2018 program. Two round tables, promoted by the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Federation of Audiovisual Producers (PROA) will take the pulse of the current circumstances.

As a second axis, after addressing, in previous editions, issues such as the boom of YouTubers or influencers, this edition will go deeper analyzing the digital transformation in society or the incidence of fake news with sessions from renowned people that we will show you soon.

A third center of interest will be dedicated to new formats and narratives in interconnected platforms. On the one hand, there will be theoretical sessions on how to promote transmedia television series and, on the other, the sixth edition of the Transmedia Project Script Contest that the MAC organizes with GAC..

Finally, the MAC will focus, as it does every year, on current events in the local audiovisual sector (technological and legal developments...). It will do so, mainly through the sessions organized in collaboration with the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya, the Xarxa Audiovisual Local and the Audiovisual Cluster of Catalonia.

The 19th edition of the MAC will be held on June 6 and 7 at Roca Umbert, Fàbrica de les Arts, a former textile factory transformed into a creation space located in the Barcelona town of Granollers. Registrations are free.
