Each selected project will be eligible for a maximum financial aid of $30,000.

Ibermedia at the Malaga Festival

In a meeting held within the framework of the Malaga Film Festival, Meeting at the Malaga Film Festival, the Programa Ibermedia, in which the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) participates, which supports the training, development and co-production of Ibero-American audiovisual, has agreed to include in 2019 support for animation works projects. To this end, it has created a reserve of a minimum fund of $200,000 in the line of development aid to finance animation projects. Each selected project will be eligible for a maximum financial aid of $30,000.

The new line of development aid will seek to maximize national aid for animation projects and encourage co-productions with more ambitious budgets, in addition to encouraging the use of new digital technologies.

This new support is a response to the detected need to support professionals in a sector that is in great demand in the new audiovisual panorama worldwide. This initiative has been agreed upon with the Ibero-American animation sector during the Quirino Awards, held in Tenerife at the beginning of this month of April.

The Ibermedia Plenary has also confirmed the need to support future animated film co-production projects and to adapt the conditions of the aid bases to the singularities of animated cinema, as well as favorably weight projects aimed at children.

For the general director of the ICAA, Óscar Graefenhain, "this support from Ibermedia is an important reinforcement for the Ibero-American animation sector. I want to highlight that the animation projects selected by Ibermedia for its aid also have more weight in the ICAA aid scale, so together we are promoting support for animation. This sector has many particularities and is at the same time necessary, since animation constitutes the first contact of the youngest with the world of cinema."

This commitment by Ibermedia to family animated cinema will foster a greater capacity to generate local stories that reach the children's world globally, coming from Ibero-American culture.

20 years of Ibermedia

The Ibermedia Program started in 1998 and has since launched 26 co-production calls, which have supported 787 projects, of which 656 are titles already released, has favored the exhibition of 298 films and the broadcast of 416 titles on public television in Latin America. Likewise, it has awarded 3,428 training scholarships in all the countries of the Ibero-American community.

Altogether, 93 million dollars have been invested in Ibero-American cinema in all lines of aid, which translates into 2,396 projects benefited thanks to the Program, more than 1,600 films released, with indirect aid to 2,000 companies and more than 10,000 production and business management professionals.

The ICAA has contributed 38 million dollars, that is, almost 41% of the total, which makes Spain the country that has invested the most in these 20 years of the Program.
