The 4th edition of Filmadrid once again fills the city with unpublished films from all over the world
From June 7 to 16, the Filmadrid International Film Festival returns, with the screening of more than 70 films, 40 of them in competition within the Official, Avant-garde, and Film Screening sections.
Movies, Madrid International Film Festival, presented the programming and news of its 4th edition at a press conference at the Petit Palace Savoy Hotel. This annual event with auteur cinema will take place from June 7 to 16 at different venues in the capital. For ten days a total of 75 films will be screened, 40 of them within the Official, Avant-garde and Film Passages competitions, and the rest as special screenings or non-competitive sections. A total of 41 premieres in Spain, 5 of them World Premieres.
Furthermore, among the highlights is the special place that the festival dedicates to South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo by opening and closing the event with two of his films, The day after y Claire’s Camera. Maestro Frederick Wiseman also returns to Filmadrid with his most recent work, Ex-Libris: The New York Public Library, considered by specialized critics as one of the documentaries of 2017. We premiere the winner of Best Film at the Karlovy Vary festival, Little Crusader, and director Václav Kadrnka will be in Madrid to present it. And we recover two cinematographic gems from filmmakers who have marked the spirit of Filmadrid: Chantal Akerman, with All a night, and Claire Denis, with Friday Evening.
In parallel to the official competitions, Filmadrid has other non-competitive sections and numerous activities around cinema, which will take place inside and outside the projection rooms.
The Focus section of Filmadrid, dedicated to filmmakers of great international relevance whose films remain unpublished in Madrid, will also have as protagonists this year at night ('Endless Nights' cycle), the feminism of the Israeli Raquel Chalfi; Khalik Allah's New African American Cinema; and the Italian Tonino de Bernardi, who will be present in Madrid during the festival.
Other filmmakers and personalities who will be in the capital for the festival are Guto Parente, João Viana, Vacláv Kadrnka, Monica Stambrini, Diana Toucedo, Monica Rovira, Adam Kaplan, Ariel Schweitzer and Lur Olaizola. In addition, Eugène Green and Nicole Brenez can be present at the Festival thanks to Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and its Program for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture (PICE) in the Visitor modality.
450 fueron las películas recibidas para las secciones a concurso, procedentes de más de 30 países. Finalmente están presentes en el festival cintas de toda Europa y de lugares como India, Líbano, Mozambique, Japón, Filipinas, Israel, Chile, Argentina, o EEUU.
Son varios los directores que repiten con película en Filmadrid: Ted Fendt y Payal Kapadia en Sección Oficial; Helena Girón y Samuel M Delgado, Deborah Stratman y Nazli Dinçel en Vanguardias. María Cañas y Alonso Valbuena en Pasajes Filmadrid; Frederick Wiseman y Eugène Green como Proyecciones Especiales. Además el cine de Chantal Akreman volverá a estar presente, directora de la que ya se pudo ver No Home Movie en Filmadrid 2016.
