There are already 142 4K channels and services around the world

Most of these services are distributed through satellite. More than a third are in Europe.

Eutelsat, the French satellite multinational, has identified at least 142 channels or services in Ultra High Definition (UHD) throughout the world, between independent channels, pay television services and national televisions.

Michel Chabrol, vice president of Eutelsat, will present his report on the opening day of the 4K HDR Summit, which will celebrate its fourth edition from November 7 to 9 at the Digital Content Pole in Malaga.

According to Eutelsat's work, these 142 4K-UHD channels or services are offered through satellites. And of these, more than a third (55) are in Europe, and the rest in other regions of the world.

Chabrol is one of the main evangelizers of 4K-UHD in many technological events held annually around the world, such as the NAB or IBC and numerous “Innovation Days” that are held in Europe throughout the year.

A highlight of the Eutelsat report, defending the driving role that satellites play in the deployment of these new technologies, is that at the moment there are hardly any 4K-UHD projects developed in Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

Eutelsat (European Telecommunications Satellite Organization) was founded in 1977, and operates 38 communications satellites under the names Hot Bird, Atlantic Bird, Eurobird, KA-SAT and Eutelsat.

These satellites are used to broadcast some 6,800 television and radio channels, reaching 1 billion video and audio consumers around the world.

Eutelsat also offers communication services for televisions, corporate networks, mobile telephony, Internet backbone connectivity and broadband applications with land, sea and in-flight access.

In recent years, Eutelsat has deployed its new satellites mainly in America.
