Subscriptions to IPTV services now exceed one hundred million worldwide
Throughout the first quarter, a total of 4.6 million new subscriptions to IPTV services offered by broadband operators were registered, thus reaching a global total of 100.9 million.
The market analysis firm Point Topic, which among other reports carries out a quarterly study on the penetration of services such as broadband or IP television around the world, concludes in its latest work that the number of subscriptions to IPTV services (offered by broadband operators) has already exceeded one hundred million.
The market grew by 4.8% in the first quarter of 2014, which coincides with the growth rate achieved in the last quarter of 2013. Throughout the first quarter, a total of 4.6 million new subscriptions were registered, thus reaching a global total of 100.9 million.
Eastern Europe recorded the highest level of IPTV growth in Q1 2014 with a net increase of 630,000 subscribers, resulting in a growth of 11.6%. East Asia, as expected, given the size of the market, would lead the net gain with 2.58 million new subscriptions and an increase of 5.7% compared to the last quarter of 2013.
The top ten countries in the IPTV market are China, France, the United States, South Korea, Japan and Russia. It should be remembered that this report only covers video services related to fixed broadband operators, as part of a service package. IPTV is facing stiff competition from OTT providers, as well as terrestrial and cable television networks whose subscriptions are not included in this analysis.
